The programme of Cardio Event, Cardiology Towards the Future, this year in its fifth
edition, forges ahead along its by now traditional path, seeking to offer an attentive
overview of the present in a perspective broadly open to the future.
In a conscientious and meticulous medical world the daily care of the patient brings
to the fore, alongside the need to constantly ensure the appropriate approach to acute
conditions, the growing importance of chronic forms, and to an even greater extent the
intermingling of several pathological conditions in the individual patient.
Focus on complexity is one of the principal features of the clinical-surgical contents
of Cardioevent 2013, offering participants observations deriving from the experience
of expert Clinicians both generalist and specialist.
In the 2013 edition particular prominence has also been given to appraisal of what
radiological imaging techniques can imply in terms of radiobiological and protectionist
elements and a broad-based attention to the safety of hemodynamic laboratory procedures.
Attention has been concentrated on the appropriateness of cardiac treatments also
in the perspective of what is now defined as “quaternary prevention”, in other words
the prevention of potential damage deriving from the excessively extended and
inappropriate use of technologies.
The use of telemedicine and eHealth is another aspect to which specific focus is
given: two different papers will present and discuss experiences both in Italy and at
international level.
Appropriate management of the treatment of high blood pressure and the monitoring of
risk in different clinical conditions is a subject entrusted to experts of vast experience,
who offer an updated vision of the personalised treatment of the patient with high
blood pressure.
A view of the future of medicine connected with the use of nanotechnologies will be
mapped out by Mauro Ferrari, Chairman of the Texas Institute of Nanotechnology and
one of the leading scientists in this sector.
As has become consolidated practice, advanced simulation will be used to offer
colleagues a shared vision of methods that are by now endorsed as crucial elements in
establishing diagnosis and therapy; these are also fast becoming precise, standardised
and reproducible methods of assessment.
And so Cardioevent 5 aims to maintains and evolve its essential structure, forwardlooking
but constantly focused on consolidating all that is currently supported by
quality evidence, within the perspective of a cardiological management projected
towards efficacious, efficient innovation and the sustainability of treatment.
My very best good wishes for fruitful work to all speakers and participants!
