TIRANTE IN FUNE / WIRE ROPE SLING
Gravity Centre
The position of the load gravity centre should be established in
relation to the possible points of connection of the wire rope
sling. To lift the load without waving or tilting the following
conditions should be met:
a) For single leg and endless wire rope slings the connection
point should be vertically upon the gravity centre.
b) For two leg slings the connection points should be either on
one side and upon the gravity centre.
c) For three and four leg slings the connection points should be
distributed in plan around the gravity centre. It is preferable
that the distribution should be equal and that the connection
points should be above the gravity centre.
Angles for multi-leg slings
When using two, three and four-leg wire rope slings the
connection points and wire rope sling configuration should be
selected to achieve angles between the wire rope sling legs and
the vertical within the range marked on the wire rope sling.
Preferably all angles to the vertical (angle β in figure A.1) should
be equal (see “load symmetry” point).
Angles to the vertical of less than 15° should be avoided if
possible since they present a potential risk of load imbalance.
All multi-leg wire rope slings exert a horizontal component of
force (see figure A.1) which increases when the angle between
the wire rope sling legs increases.
Care should always be taken to grant that the load to move can
resist to the horizontal component of force without being
damaged (compression force).
The hook to which the wire rope sling is attached should be
directly above the gravity centre.
