100% Made in Sicily
The DOC covers
numerous typologies of
wines. From traditional
vines such as Catarratto,
Inzolia, Grillo, Nero
d’Avola and Nerello
Mascalese to the new
arrivals Chardonnay
or Cabernet Sauvignon
and many others.
Alcamo,
wines
of land
and sea
The wine of
Alcamo has been
celebrated since
1500, when one
of the sommeliers
of the Holy See,
the famous Sante
Lancerio, included
it among the
most highly-regarded wines of the time.
A distinguished past for this wine, now
recognized as a DOC, covering white, red
and rosé production.
Produced in the zone where the Provinces
of Trapani and Palermo meet, Alcamo
DOC includes numerous types of wines,
the broad ampelographic base of which
takes in traditional vines such as Catarratto,
Inzolia and Grillo together with many new
by Luigi Ferro
arrivals: Chardonnay, Muller Thurgau and
Sauvignon among the whites; Nero d’Avola,
Nerello Mascalese, Frappato, and Perricone
among autochthonous wines and Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah among
international reds.
Inzolia, in particular, is the most widespread
autochthonous vine in Sicily. It is tough,
withstanding even climates with little rainfall,
and its grapes yield a must used to make
some of the most important Sicilian DOC
labels, such as Alcamo.
Alcamo Bianco has an intense aroma
and a strawy-yellow colour with greenish
reflections. The bouquet suggests field
flowers, almonds and newly-ripened pears,
