100% Made in Sicily
A goblet
full of sun
and sea
One of the best-loved
raisin wines in the world
is created from Zibibbo
grapes and is produced
on the island
of Pantelleria.
In the largest of the Sicilian
islands, almost at the centre
of the Mediterranean and
only seventy kilometres from
Tunisia, wines such as the
Passito di Pantelleria are born.
In that wind-swept land, with
an average temperature of
18-20° and less than 40 days’
rainfall per year, the Consorzio Volontario
per la Tutela e la Valorizzazione dei vini Doc
dell’Isola di Pantelleria works to protect and
make known the island’s production, from
which stands out the celebrated raisin wine.
by Francesco Torlaschi
This wine has been produced on the island
since ancient times, using the Zibibbo grape
which originated in Egypt and was brought
to Pantelleria by the Phoenicians. Almost
the entire present-day national production is
grown in Pantelleria.
This grape has exceptional organoleptic
properties and. The vines produce
voluminous, oblong bunches with large,
thick-skinned yellowy-green grapes that
ripen rather late.
