Vine- and wine-producing Sicily is a land<br />
with a vocation. It has over 100 thousand<br />
hectares under vine cultivation, a record<br />
production of 3 million hectolitres of<br />
DOP and IGP wine, a unique varietal<br />
heritage created from a well-conceived<br />
mix between exclusive autochthonous<br />
and international vines, and a human<br />
capital consisting of highly motivated<br />
entrepreneurs with a strong propensity for innovation.<br />
All this can now be represented by a single Designated Origin:<br />
DOC Sicilia, the most extensive in Italy.<br />
“A project”, comments Lucio Monte, manager of the technoscientific<br />
area of IRVOS (the Sicilian Regional Institute of Oil and<br />
Wine), “strongly supported by the Regional Local Government<br />
Department, a high-profile designation that will provide a strong<br />
identity for the quality of the island’s production in markets<br />
