WELCOME
Anche in questo caso, per comodità di
consultazione, ho incluso l'analisi delle
stilografiche Welcome nel capitolo dedicato
ai marchi minori, alla voce corrispondente.
C) produzioni su commissione certe e
documentate, con modelli anche del
tutto diversi dai normali prodotti di
Simoni.
SARATOGA
(Vol. II)
Diversamente dai casi elencati precedentemente,
i modelli Saratoga, commissionati
a Simoni dall'Ing. E.Webber in collaborazione
con il Dr. Mengoni, non sono
assimilabili, se non per alcuni dettagli,
alle produzioni ordinarie dell'azienda di
Bologna. La loro origine negli stabillimenti
di Via Orbi é tuttavia certa e documentata.
ITALA
Benché questo straordinario modello di
penna a doppio pennino non presenti
alcun riferimento ad Omas sia dal punto
WELCOME
For ease of reference I have included the
discussion of Welcome fountain pens in
the section dedicated to minor brands.
C – Pens made to fill third-party
orders, and confirmed by documen-
tary evidence, that differ from Omas’s
standard lines
SARATOGA
(Vol. II)
Mainly for reasons of ease of reference,
my discussion of Saratoga pens can be
found under this name in the section on
minor brands.
Unlike the pens discussed above,
Saratogas, ordered from Omas by Messrs.
Webber and Mengoni, share very few similarities
with Omas’s standard products.
The fact they were made in the factory in
Via Orbi is documented and beyond
doubt.
ITALA
Although this extraordinary doublenibbed
pen bears no technical or design
similarities to Omas pens, the fact that
di stilografiche a doppio pennino;
valga a questo proposito il riferimento
al modello in ebanite nera, con carica-
they were made by the firm has become
common knowledge among collectors.
Dolcini places the beginnings
of their production
to the
thirties.
In
my
opinion, however,
they were made
later, probably in the early
forties. This date is suggested by the
cap trim and some information found in
a company yearbook. The records do in
fact indicate that a company simply identified
as Società Anonima Vendita Penna
Bicolore Itala Cromograf (sale of two-tone
Itala Cromograf incorporated company)
was registered in Genoa between
1941 and 1954.
It isn’t clear if this firm was the purchaser
of the Itala fountain pen or if it
was established specifically for the distribution
of this particular writing instrument,
with the obvious involvement of
Simoni. Nevertheless, the fact remains that
the pen itself offers no indications that it
was made by Omas. The wording “Itala
Cromograf” is engraved on the barrel and
also appears on the 14-karat gold nib and
on the pen’s box.
