The Scotland tipo
Duofold.
Duofold-style The
Scotland pens.
invece assai più ricco ed interessante. I
modelli in stile Duofold, di cui si conoscono
due misure, presentano tutti caratteristiche
analoghe: la clip ha terminazione
a pallina e presenta l'incisione "The
Scotland" associata all'indicazione "18 Kr";
sui serbatoi é presente la dicitura "The
Scotland Pen Self Filling"
ed i pennini sono in oro
14 carati con l'incisione
"The Scotland Pen -
Made in England", a
completamento dell'immagine
"straniera" delle
penne. I pennini successivi
al 1935, montati
sulle stilografiche marcate
"Scotland Italiana",
recano invece l'incisione
"Made in Italy".
safetj” (note the misspelling) and a
“Scotland zigrinata Watermans tipo 40”
(knurled Watermans type 40 Scotland),
which was apparently nothing more than
a safety pen.
In addition there was a large pen marked
“Scotland Italiana – TABO MOD. 1926,”
which is apparently the link between the
last The Scotland models and the first
Tabo pens. The features of this pen, which
is all but identical to the Tabo 1926 (see
Tabo – Vol. II), suggest that it was made
by Montegrappa.
The range of celluloid pens with The
Scotland brand is much richer and more
interesting. The Duofold-style pens, of
which two sizes are known, all have similar
characteristics: the clip terminates with
a ball and is engraved “The Scotland”
and “18 Kr.” The barrel has the wording
“The Scotland Pen Self Filling” and the
nibs are 14-karat gold, engraved – to
complete the illusion of the pens’ foreign
origins – “The Scotland Pen – Made in
England.” After 1935 the nibs fitted to
Per quanto riguarda i materiali, la gamma
comprende colorazioni in tinta unita nei
classici colori dei primi modelli Duofold e
colorazioni variegate, con venature e marmorizzazioni,
tipici degli anni 1930.
Il coinvolgimento di Simoni nella produzione
The Scotland risulta più che evidente
in molti dei modelli in celluloide, alcuni
dei quali, soprattutto quelli con sagoma
ogivale, richiamano in maniera manifesta
Omas.
pens marked “Scotland
Italiana” were engraved (in
English) “Made in Italy.”
As far as the celluloid is
concerned, the range
includes pens in the same
single colors as the early
Duofolds as well as multicolored
pens with veining
and marbling typical of the
thirties.
Simoni’s involvement in the
production of The Scotland
pens is more than obvious
in many celluloid models,
some of which, particularly
those with tapering ends,
clearly recall the design of
the Omas Extra Ogivale
and the Dollar Pen.
It’s more difficult to spot
Simoni’s involvement in the
production of the overlaid
safety pens, however, whose
manufacturer might well
not have been Omas.
Despite the amount of
information gathered and
the availability of a quite
large number of models
from different manufacturing
periods, it is still not
possible to clearly map out
the evolution of these pens
or, in particular, describe
the exact nature of the relationship
that existed
between Stiassi’s and
Tantini’s company and
Omas.
