CULTURALE MOLISANA DI N.Y.
Dopo l’US-
Open a New York,
l’internazionale di tennis
vinto da Djocovik su Nadal,
è iniziato un altro micro
torneo internazionale e
“misterioso”, denominato
“doppio giallo”, organizzato
dall’Associazione
Culturale Molisana di New
York in memoria di Nicola
Scarano. Misterioso perché
la coppia che avrebbe superato
il turno non avrebbe
più gareggiato insieme
ma i giocatori sarebbero
stati separati, sorteggiati
e accoppiati con altri
vincitori dello stesso turno;
internazionale perché
tutti i partecipanti, pur essendo
cittadini statunitensi,
avevano origini in paesi
diversi: Romania, Croazia,
ex Cecoslovacchia, Bulgaria,
Italia, Sudamerica,
Asia e nativi americani.
Il torneo si è
concluso domenica 18 settembre
con un magnifico
“party” che sarebbe stato
molto apprezzato anche
dal campobassano dr.
Scarano, molisano DOC,

Auriemma insieme a Nino Magarelli di “Ciao Italia” sempre della WRHU con la moglie Rosa,

As a somber service
took place at the 9/11 Memorial
in downtown Manhattan thousands
of Italian-Americans gathered
in celebration of Ferragosto,
a festival on Arthur Avenue in
the Bronx.
Ferragosto, which coincided
with the 10th anniversary
of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks,
also served as a 100th birthday
party for the family-owned businesses
in this historic, Italian
neighborhood.
“I don’t think it’s an
accident that it happened to be
this day. I think there’s a reason.
We’re all celebrating life, our
heritage and one ethnicity today-
American,” said Chicagoan Ron
Onesti, who travels to Ferragosto
with his family every year.
The ancient festival
traditionally marks the end of
harvest season in Italy, and so for
more than 15 years Arthur Avenue
has celebrated its immigrant
culture with lively Italian music,
wine drinking and pig roasting.
However, it was still a time of
reflection for many native New
Yorkers.
“My cousin, who was
a fireman in Manhattan, had his
shift on 9/11 switched. The man
who switched with him died.
Those things that happen
you just never forget,” said
David Greco, owner of Mike’s
Deli in the Arthur Avenue Retail
Market.
Surrounded by hanging
meats and mounds of parmesan
cheese Greco discussed the deli’s
history. His father immigrated
to America from Calabria, Italy,
and started the family business
in the 1950s. Greco, who has
lived in the Bronx his entire life,
seemed to remember 9/11 as if it
had occurred only yesterday.
“When it happened I
was in the food business, and

there was a lot of food being sent
from all over. I think that what
happened 10 years ago made us
more powerful. The Italian community
will always support Sept.
11,” Greco said.
While there was reflection
and commemoration, there
was also a strong sense of merriment.
Outside the streets were
filled with high spirits as people
lingered around vendors selling
spicy sausages and sweet cannolis.
Older Italians conversed
in their native language, while
children chased one another
between tents selling breads, oils
and olives.
“There’s just a great
sense of gathering here,” said
John Riley, principle of Our
Lady of Mount Carmel School in
the Bronx.
Riley spent his childhood
surrounded by Italian
culture. He remembers shopping
on Arthur Avenue when he was
young and noted the strong sense
of family that has consistently
been present in the area.
“Ferragosto is a moment
of solidarity for the people in the
community to come together in
the spirit of diversity. A mosaic
of diversity is something that
we’re trying to create in our
school so as to allow people to
understand that despite differences,
there is a wholeness to
humanity.”
Joanne Marano, a firstgrade
teacher at the school, has
lived in the community most of
her life.
“I’m in awe that today
is Sept. 11 and everyone is out
and enjoying the freedoms that
we have. The diversity in the
neighborhood speaks volumes.”

TORNEO DI TENNIS DELL’ ASSOCIAZIONE
CULTURALE MOLISANA DI N.Y.

anni, alla cui memoria è stato
intestato il torneo. Sicuramente
si sarebbe trovato a suo agio
tra i tennisti, uomini e donne,
che hanno partecipato al torneo,
persone con differente estrazione
sociale, culto religioso e colore
della pelle. Questo è il significato
di libertà e democrazia ed è bello
poter vivere in una comunità di
integrazione di razze e culture
in cui le distinzioni sociali sono
superate da tempo.
Lo svolgimento del
torneo è stato caratterizzato da
rispetto e sportività da parte di
tutti i giocatori partecipanti.
Nessuna divisione tra bianchi,
neri, ispanici, asiatici ed europei:
determinazione, agonismo e tanta
voglia di vincere hanno contraddistinto
le varie partite.
Tra i molisani che
hanno partecipato al torneo,
Saverio D’Abate è colui che si
è più avvicinato al traguardo
aggiudicandosi la possibilità di
giocare agli ottavi di finale. Il

PATRON DI MISS ITALIA

Enzo Mirigliani e' morto
oggi nel Policlinico Gemelli,
a Roma, dove era ricoverato
da alcuni giorni. Ad annunciarlo,
''con grande dolore'', e' il
Concorso Miss Italia. Il patron
del concorso era nato il 22 aprile
1917 a Santa Caterina sullo
Jonio (Catanzaro). Al momento
della morte di Mirigliani erano
presenti la moglie Rosy, le figlie
Rosaria e Patrizia e il nipote
Nicola. I funerali si svolgeranno
mercoledi' alle ore 15 a Roma
nella basica di santa Maria del
Popolo in piazza del Popolo.

MIRIGLIANI,E' MORTO NEL
MESE DELLA MISS - ''E' morto
nel mese di Miss Italia''. Lo fa
notare frastornata e commossa
Patrizia Mirigliani, la figlia
che ha 'ereditato' il concorso di
bellezza e il titolo di 'patron' dal
padre Enzo. La nuova miss, la
reginetta del 2011, e' stata infatti
eletta da pochi giorni, la notte
tra il 19 e il 20 settembre scorsi.
''Stava male da tempo - ricorda
all'ANSA con la voce rotta dal
pianto - stava male da due mesi.
Ho fatto questa edizione del concorso
con una forte emozione:
mio padre era gia' ricoverato in
ospedale, ma non ne volevo parlare
durante le finali, non volevo
che si venisse a sapere''. Patrizia
Mirigliani fatica a parlare tra un
singhiozzo e l'altro, ma si dice
suo percorso di gara si è tuttavia
interrotto in seguito al sorteggio
della nuova partner: brava, ma
non sufficientemente competitiva.
La finale ha visto
scontrarsi la coppia formata da
Angela Badalamenti ed Elliot
Weinstein e quella composta da
Ivan Srb e Charles Eordekian; è
stata una gara appassionante per
tutto il pubblico presente e la vittoria
è stata conquistata da Ivan e
Charles.
Dopo la premiazione
dei finalisti, tutti i giocatori
hanno ricevuto in regalo il libro
in inglese “Alla scoperta del
Molise“ di Pasquale di Lena e
una borsa sportiva contrassegnata
dagli stemmi della Regione
Molise e delle due province di
Campobasso e Isernia.
La più grande soddisfazione è
stata certamente quella degli
organizzatori dell’Associazione
Culturale Molisana che, ancora
una volta, hanno saputo offrire
un valido contributo per la promozione
e la conoscenza della
Regione Molise.

e la sua caparbieta' a realizzare

di bellezza perde un protagonista

LIVING LA DOLCE VITA: WHEN ITALY SET THE PACE FOR
AMERICAN FADS AND FANCIES BY COOKIE CURCI
During the 1950s and
60s, what America wore, what we
drove, and how we looked, was,
in a large part, dictated by Italy's
trend setters which included
fashion designers, film directors,
and auto makers. If it originated
in Italy, or the designer's name
ended in a vowel, the American
public was buying it. Even our
First Lady, Jackie Kennedy, was
enamoured with Oleg Casinni
fashions. She set the style pace in
suits and jackets by Casinni.
The film industry was,
to a large degree, responsible for
the public's newfound interest in
the European way of life. With
films such as Federico Fellini's,
"La Dolce Vita" and "La Strata",
Italian moviemakers had stirred
a lust in America's heart that
hitherto had not been touched
before. Itlay's "leave it till
tomorrow" lifestyle and carefree
attitude appealed to the American
moviegoer, who quickly began
to emulate the "dolce" lifestyle.
Living the sweet life soon became
the priority of the day. People not
only wanted to live well, but better,
a passion that sent Americans
on a search for the "good life".
Songs such as Dean
Martin's "That's Amore" "Al
Martino's Al di la and Mario Lanza's
"Arrivederci Roma" were
high on America's hit parade.
Even Walt Disney got in on the
act when he had the Italian tune
"Bella Notte" composed especially
for his animated hit, Lady and
the Tramp. While Peggy Lee's
voice sings the romantic ballad,
the canine stars of the film, Lady
and Tramp, dine alfresco on a
platter of meatballs and spaghetti.
The song and the scene were the
hit of the film.
Films featuring Italy
were sure to draw people to
the box office. Movies such as
"Three coins in the Fountain",
"Summertime in Venice, and "
The Rose Tattoo," helped feed the
frenzy for anything Italian.
Wildly famous Italian
fashion designers, Cassini, Pucci,
Gucci, Givinchy, and Simonetta
were hotly in demand, as were
these fast cars made by Italian
auto makers: Lamborghini,
Masereradi, Ferrari and Alfa
Romeo. But more than cars and
more than clothes, Italy's most
profound import was the movie
icon, the Italian cinemas sexy
earthy women and demonstrative,
romantic Italian men.
They came to us in a variety
of sizes, shapes and heights,
those voluptuous Italian actress
and sensuous men from across the
sea Whatever their size, shape or
style, few movie goers were exempt
from the spell cast by these
magnetic stars
The first of these Italian
imports to make an impact on our
post war styles and trends was

Gina Lolobrigida. Born Luigina
Lolobrigida in Subraco, Italy,
Gina was the first international
actress to bring the short saucy
Italian hair cut to American
beauty salons. Its official name
was "The artichoke cut" but anyone
who wanted it just asked her
beautician for the "Lolobrigida
look".
Lolobrigida had starred in
a number of earthy Italian films
before coming to America. But
it wasn't until in 1957 when she
starred in "Trapeze" with Burt
Lancaster and Tony Curtis that

America took an undivided interest
in her.
Even the popular "I love Lucy"
show got in on the Italian craze.
In one of Lucy's most beloved
episodes Ricky and Lucy Ricardo
travel to Italy where Lucy tries to
get a part in an earthy Italian film
but ends up stomping grapes.
The public was enthralled with
Italian imports, women's fads
reflected these styles: short dark
hair, hooped earrings, and low cut
blouses. But more than styles, it

una ragazzina sprovveduta e ho
visto in loro l'accoglienza, il loro
era un approccio familiare - aggiunge
l'attrice che conquisto' la
corona all'eta' di 16 anni -. Il loro
era un approccio non agonistico
ma di merito, il loro intento era
davvero quello di premiare la ragazza
piu' bella. E Mirigliani ha
sempre tenuto il concorso pulito,
negli ultimi anni grazie anche
alla figlia Patrizia''. ''Di lui ho un
ricordo particolare - conclude
Martina Colombari - aveva quel
modo affettuoso di prenderti il
viso con le mani e darti un bacio
sulla fronte, come un nonno''.

CARRIERA LA DEVO A MISS

non sarebbe mai decollata
senza Miss Italia, un concorso
che ho sempre rispettato e che ha
dato una grande opportunita', a

Cosi' Roberta Capua raggiunta al
telefono dall'ANSA commenta
la notizia della scomparsa del
patron del concorso di bellezza
Enzo Mirigliani. ''Lo apprendo in
questo momento, e francamente
mi dispiace moltissimo. Ho un
bellissimo ricordo di Mirigliani,
un uomo profondo, un gentiluomo
dagli occhi bellissimi''.
Eletta Miss Italia nel 1986 a soli
18 anni (titolo gia' assegnato a
sua madre nel 1959), Capua ha
avviato una carriera da modella
e indossatrice. Dagli anni
novanta ha intrapreso la carriera
televisiva debuttando dapprima
in piccoli ruoli sulle emittenti
Fininvest, poi passando a Telemontecarlo
e infine raggiungendo
la popolarita' grazie ai contenitori
mattutini Rai, In famiglia e
Unomattina e di Mediaset. L'ex
miss e oggi mamma felice, tiene
ad esprimere le sue sincere condoglianze
alla figlia di Mirigliani
Patrizia che ha ha ''assunto con
grande professionalita' il timone
del concorso''. Capua ricorda
infine che fu proprio sua madre
Marisa Jossa la prima miss Italia
incoronata da Enzo Mirigliani
quando e' diventato patron del
concorso.
MIRKA VIOLA,
MIRIGLIANI PEZZO STORIA
CHE VA VIA - ''Mi dispiace
tantissimo per Mirigliani. Ero
molto legata a lui e gli ho voluto
molto bene. E' un pezzo di storia
che se ne va''. E' il ricordo di
Mirka, la Miss Italia a cui nel
1987, quando era appena 19enne,
fu tolto lo scettro di piu' bella
d'Italia, perche' gia' sposata e
mamma di un bimbo, Nicolas.
Infatti, il regolamento ferreo del
concorso non prevedeva concorrenti
gia' sposate e Mirka venne
detronizzata. Il titolo posso' a
Michela Rocco di Torrepadula.
Ma l'episodio dell'esclusione di
Mirka Viola segno' un momento
importante della storia
del concorso, che dopo qualche
anno, nel 1994, cambio' la regola
e ammise anche le concorrenti
sposate o con prole. ''Perdere
il titolo non ha tolto niente alla
mia carriera - aggiunge Mirka
Viola - Mirigliani e' stato allora
e ha continuato ad essere un mio
sostenitore. Oggi dopo aver fatto
l'attrice, debutto alla regia di un
film a ottobre, L'amore fa male,
con Stefania Rocca e Nicole
Grimaudo''
DENNY MENDEZ,
MI DIFESE COME UN VERO
GUERRIERO - ''La morte di
Enzo Mirigliani mi lascia un
vuoto immenso''. Cosi' Denny
Mendez, prima e unica concorrente
di colore ad essere eletta
miss Italia a soli 18 anni nel 1996
ricorda il patron del concorso di
bellezza. Un elezione che fece
scalpore e all'epoca divise l'Italia.
''Mirigliani - fa notare Mendez -
e' stato un vero guerriero, che mi
ha difesa dalle polemiche seguite
alla mia incoronazione. Ero
molto giovane, e per me e' stato
come un padre, mi ha incoraggiata
e rassicurata come uno di
famiglia, dandomi consigli preziosi.
Non lo dimentichero' mai''
FRIZZI, LA MIA VITA
MOLTO LEGATA A MIRIGLI-
ANI - "La mia vita è legata
a quella di Enzo Mirigliani a
doppio filo: sono infatti nato
nell'anno in cui Enzo Mirigliani
ha preso il timone di Miss Italia,
e la mia carriera tv ha subito
un'accelerazione, anche grazie
al concorso di bellezza". Così
Fabrizio Frizzi, che ha condotto
la storica manifestazione di
bellezza per 15 anni consecutivi,
e che proprio quest'anno era
tornato alla guida di Miss Italia,
ricorda in una conversazione
con l'ANSA Enzo Mirigliani,
dicendosi addolorato per la sua
scomparsa. "L'unica cosa che
mi consola è forse sapere che
ha smesso di soffrire, stava
molto male". Ma Frizzi ci tiene
a ricordare l'immagine più bella
di Mirigliani che "ha saputo con
forza e tenacia regalare un sogno
a tante giovani. Era un uomo con
una forza d'animo incredibile.
Ricordo quando nel 2002, con il
fisco già segnato dagli anni, sono
riuscito a farlo cantare nella sigla
tv. Fu una bella sorpresa". Frizzi
sottolinea ancora come, "nonostante
i dibattiti e le polemiche
che puntualmente ogni anno accompagnano
il concorso, il fatto
che anche quest'anno si siano
raggiunti dei risultati più che
soddisfacenti sia la dimostrazione
che il pubblico apprezza ancora
oggi una rassegna di qualità
nel rispetto di tutte le ragazze
che hanno partecipato. E questo
anche grazie alla professionalità
della figlia di Enzo, Patrizia, che
in questi anni ha saputo raccogliere
l'eredità del padre svolgendo
un lavoro egregio".

Sophia Loren was the first actress
in a foreign film to receive the
academy award.
After seeing Italian
actress Ann magnani in several
Italian made films, playwright
Tennessee Williams wrote the
"Rose Tattoo" especially with
her in mind. This film made an
impact on the public, like no
other. It cemented the image of
the earthy Italian women forever
in our minds. For her exquisite
performance in the film Magnani
received the Academy award and
the New York film critic's award.
She was nominated again for her
rolls in "Wild is the Wind (1957)
and "The Fugitive kind" with
Marlon Brando. But she would
be forever stereotyped as the raw,
sensual Italian woman.

League. "Non so - dice in
conferenza stampa - se si rivelerà
più facile o difficile battere l'Inter
dopo il cambio sulla panchina.
Certo, l'avvicendamento di un
allenatore crea una forte spinga
emotiva, alza il morale e provoca
una maggiore aggressivita'. Ma
va sottolineato che i giocatori
sono sempre gli stessi e si tratta
di campioni indipendentemente
da chi scenderà in campo. Noi
lamentiamo assenze decisive e
per me sarà difficile comporre
l'undici di partenza". Slutsky cita
Pazzini, Milito, Coutinho e Obi:
"Loro rappresentano per noi una
minaccia".
Alla domanda sulle
novità introdotte da Ranieri, il
tecnico risponde: "Ha cambiato
il sistema di gioco, e questa è la
cosa principale. In più ha buttato
dentro calciatori che con Gasperini
non giocavano. L'Inter ha
mostrato più aggressività in fase
offensiva. Anche se non sono
certo che questo atteggiamento
sia del tutto collegato al cambio
di allenatore. Bisogna tenere
presente che la squadra era molto
motivata a porre fine a una serie
di risultati negativi messi in fila
da parte dell'Inter''. Il Cska -
comunque - cerca la sua rivincita

da solo. Oltre al calcio, gli piace
mostrarsi in pubblico circondato

che sa colpire al cuore oltre che
in porta. In attacco - affianco
a lui - Doumbia, altro ottimo
realizzatore con 15 reti segnate
in campionato. In difesa i gemelli
Berezutski, affiatati sul terreno di
gioco e nella vita. Il team russo
e' reduce da una sonora vittoria
(3-1) in campionato contro il
Volga Nizhny. A cinque giornate
dalla fine del campionato,
lo Zenit di Luciano Spalletti
mantiene un esiguo vantaggio
di due punti sul Cska. Con una
rimonta ancora possibile grazie
ai gol di Doumbia, di Dzagoev e
di Ignashevic, domani tenteranno
l'impossibile contro l'Inter.

Rosano Brazzi were creating a
new look for the American male.
The inspired the trend for Italian
silk suits, dark glasses, silk shirts,
and scarves, monogrammed
leather, sporty hats, fast cars and
above all else- an attitude. Lay
back, carefree, let tomorrow take
care of itself. Though this esthetic
lifestyle many not have been very
practical it was fun while it lasted.
And for a time, the movie going
public couldn't get enough of the
Mastroiani and Brazzi Italian accents,
or Loren and Lolobrigida's
curvaceous figures.
Masrtroiani 's hit film "La
dolche vita" had solidified him
as the jet setters icon, In real-life
the actor's lifestyle wasn't too
dissimilar from the characters
he portrayed. Which made him
even more adored by women and
envied by men all over the world.
Rossa Brazzi was, in real-life, a
happily married man, but Hollywood
encouraged his playboy
image. He starred in a series of
popular romantic films: "Three
coins in the Fountain" "Summertime
in Venice" and "Rome
Adventure".
Even the Italian accent was
marketable, in fact, comedian
Pat Herrington jr. built a career
around it. IN 1959, he caused a
small sensation when he appeared
on Jack Parr's tonight show,
claiming to be Italian born Guido
Panzzini. The public was crazy
about the supposed Italian born
comic, until it was revealed that
he was actually Harrington, an
America born Irishmen.
The Italian lifestyle, their
movie stars and sporty cars were
an enviable way of life to a generation
just beginning to enjoy a
prosperous economy; a lifestyle
that may not have been practical
as it was enviable.
Today, music, styles and
trends come and go as quickly as
yesterday's news. Fashion isn't
very exciting, not like it was in
decades past. Autos are driven
now for their practicality and
not the image they create and
hairstyles, well there really aren't
any around to copy. And I can't
remember the last time I heard an
actor with an Italian accent.
With the exception of TV's
Baywatch, the curvaceous actress
is all but gone from the movie
screen, today "thin is in" and
when they talk about an actresses
large cup size, they are only talking
about her cafe' latte.
There was something very
special about the Italian fads and
people of the 1950s and '60s and
they left an indelible mark on the
buying public who admired them.
Sophia Loren is still as beautiful
and beguiling as she was in
the 1950s. The actress once said,
"Beauty comes from the soul and
it shows in your eyes, it has nothing
to do with looks".
At a recent Golden Globe
awards, amidst a bevy of young
movie starlets Kelsey Crammer
was asked if he had seen anyone
there who impressed him, he
replied" I saw only one person
here who totally awed me with
her beauty--Sophia Loren".
It seems this Italian star's
beauty comes from deep within
and remains timeless.

Tex, who was created
by Bonelli's father in the 50s,
inspired TV and feature films.
Dylan Dog, created in
1986 by Tiziano Sclavi, was also
made into a film, while its sales
overtook those of Tex.
Zagor, invented by
Bonelli himself, was another
hit for the Cepim stable, which
became a publishing giant under
his stewardship, Italy's biggest
comics and cartoon house.
Mr No - another Bonelli
creation - Martin Mystere and
Nathan Never were other international
successes for Bonelli, who
also oversaw a Tamil language
version of Tex.
In an interview a
few years ago, Bonelli said "I
wouldn't have been able to do
anything else".
He was an honorary
citizen of Milan and in 2008 received
a civic award for "helping
make Milan the Italian comics
publishing capital and making
generations of children love
reading".

gara, l'allenatore ha rivisto la
partita analizzando gli errori che

dopo le prove di Verona e di ieri

campionato contro il Cesena e il
recupero di Massimo Ambrosini
sono gia' importanti passi avanti

ENI RESTARTS LIBYAN OIL PRODUCTION
Rome - ENI has restarted
oil production in Libya
after months of inactivity due to
fighting between forces loyal to
strongman Muammar Gaddafi
and anti-Gaddafi rebels, the Italian
oil giant said Monday.
ENI said it had reopened
15 wells at the Bu Attifel
field, about 300 km south of
Benghazi. The current level of
production is around 31,900
barrels a day and more wells
will be reactivated "over the next
few days" to reach the minimum

the oil to a terminal at the
eastern Libyan port of Zuetina,
Eni said.
Operations are being
run by the Mellitah Oil & Gas
Company, a joint venture between
Eni and Libya's National
Oil Corporation (NOC).
The Bu Attifel field was
the first giant field discovered by
Eni in the 1960s. Eni has been
in Libya since 1959 and is the
country's leading international
hydrocarbons operator.
Its activities in Libya
were almost completely interrupted
because of the war which
is now heading for an end.
The only plant to
remain active was at Wafa, about
800 km south of Tripoli, where
the production of gas for local
needs was kept up.
Italy recently said preconflict
deals with Gaddafi will
be respected by the new transitional

Rome - A new proposal
brought before parliament Thursday
would see that those who
deface, damage or steal public art
objects would serve jail time.
According to the law,
offenders would spend one to six
years in prison plus pay a fine of
5,000 to 10,000 euros for crimes
such as the one committed in
early September when a local
man snapped off pieces of the
Fountain of the Moor in Piazza
Navona, one of Rome's most
famous fountains.
The event generated
much international attention
due largely to the same vandal's
failed attempt to damage the
Trevi Fountain.
The law would also apply
to illegal digging and searching
for archaeological artifacts.
For the "crime of illegal exit or
export," offenders would also
spend one to six years in prison
plus pay an additional 10,000 to
30,000 euros in fines.
"No more leniency,"
said Culture Minister Giancarlo
Galan, who introduced the law.
The bill was unanimously
approved by the cabinet
Thursday.

MILANO - Il 'buon sonno' si costruisce nei primi mesi di
vita. Bastano alcune semplici regole per affrontare i disturbi piu'

analyses of the cranium and the
pelvis we're tending towards
the hypothesis that this was a
female," said Bologna University
anthropologist, Giorgio Gruppioni.
He said that the skeleton
was whole and connected, but
had partially collapsed under the
weight of the earth. Further excavation
will be needed to confirm
the hypothesis, Gruppioni said.
Archaeologists have
been searching for the remains of
Lisa Gherardini Del Giocondo,
who died in Florence in 1542,
and is believed to have modeled
for Leonardo's celebrated
portrait, now hanging in the
Louvre. The skeleton's bones
have become fragile due to the
humidity of the earth. They
emerged slowly as archaeologists
removed surrounding dirt
with brushes and a small vacuum
cleaner.
Only a battery of scientific
tests will prove whether or
not the skeleton indeed belonged
to a woman who was a contemporary
of Mona Lisa, said
art historian Silvano Vinceti,
who is overseeing the project
for the National Committee for
the Enhancement of Historic,
Cultural and Environmental Assets.
These include a carbon-14
test to determine the skeleton's
historical period, a hystological
exam to determine its age, and a
test to compare its DNA with that
of two of Mona Lisa's children,
buried in Florence's Santissima
Annunziata church.
The objective of the dig
is to find Mona Lisa's remains,
then reconstruct her face and
compare it to Leonardo's painting.
Leonardo sleuth
Giuseppe Pallanti has argued
that the former Ursuline convent
"must be" the last resting place
of La Gioconda.
Most modern scholars
have now agreed with Pallanti
that the Mona Lisa sitter was
Lisa Gherardini, whose married
surname del Giocondo led to the
Italian name for the painting,
'La Gioconda'. According to the

orgogliosa di aver offerto, in
sette giorni densi di sfilate e
presentazioni, una moda piena di

mercato. Il combinato disposto
di creatività e concretezza ha
dato comunque un bel risultato

seta stampata oppure tagliato a
t-shirt a blocchi di colore. Lunghi
e scivolati, corti e stretti, midi
e svasati, gli abiti sono i veri
protagonisti di queste collezioni,
un po' perché da sempre sono
i preferiti delle donne, che non
devono perdere troppo tempo a

soldi e speranza. La stagione del
trionfo dell'abito segna l'ascesa
della gonna, vede stabili shorts

calo le quotazioni dei pantaloni:

S&P CUTS
RATING FOR 11
ITALIAN CITIES,

Rome - Only a week after
cutting Italy's sovereign debt
rating, Standard & Poor's cut
the ratings of 11 of the country's
local government agencies on
Monday.
The international
ratings agency cut the ratings
from A+ to A for cities including
Milan, Genoa and Bologna,
and provinces including Rome
and Mantua, and the regions of
Marche, Sicily, Emilia Romagna,
Liguria, Umbria and Friuli Venezia
Giulia.
In a sign of continuing
concern about the country's
rising debt levels, S&P also
changed its outlook to negative
for these provinces and regions.
The rating for the northern city
of Turin's long-term debt was
confirmed at A but its outlook
was revised from stable to negative.
"It seems to me that it
was already decided," said Milan
councillor for finance, Bruno
Tabacco.
Standard & Poor's cut
its credit ratings for several Italian
banks on Thursday after the
agency's controversial decision
to lower Italy's sovereign rating
earlier in the week.

500 gr. polpa di pomodoro
olio d’oliva
sale, pepe
INGREDIENTS for 6 people:
8.8 oz..Spelt
10.5 oz..dried red beans
1.1 lb potato
2 stalks of celery
2 carrots
3 onions
1.1 lb.tomato pulp
olive oil
salt, pepper
PREPARAZIONE:
Mettere i fagioli a bagno per una notte, scolarli e metterli in
una pentola con 2 litri d’acqua salata con le patate tagliate a
tocchetti,bollire per 40 minuti a recipiente coperto. Affettare
le cipolle, la carota e il sedano , mettere il tutto in una casseruola
con mezzo bicchiere di olio, salare e lasciar soffriggere
per circa 20 minuti.Aggiungere adesso la polpa di pomodoro
e continuare la cottura per altri 10 minuti. Versare il soffritto
nella pentola sopra e cuocere per 10 minuti, aggiungere il
farro e proseguire la cottura per 20 minuti circa, aggiungere
poca acqua se la zuppa prende una consistenza troppo densa.
Condire semplicemente con olio extravergine d’oliva e pepe

and continue cooking for another 10 minutes. Pour the sauce
into the pan over and cook for 10 minutes, add the farro and
cook for 20 minutes, add little water if the soup gets too thick
