Table 3. Results <strong>of</strong> general linear models including PC3 scores (i.e. ultraviolet colour) as<br />

dependent variables <strong>and</strong> nesting site, habitat type, body mass, clutch size, duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

nestling period <strong>and</strong> PC2 scores (i.e. blue-red colour) as independent variables. Analyses<br />

were performed on raw data (i.e. species as independent data points) <strong>and</strong> on<br />

phylogenetically independent contrasts. In <strong>the</strong> last case <strong>the</strong> regression line was forced<br />

through <strong>the</strong> origin <strong>and</strong> degrees <strong>of</strong> freedom were corrected by subtracting <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong><br />
