ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
If not for the hard work of many biologists, these plant lists could not accurately reflect our current understanding of the Virginia flora. On the staff of the Division of Natural
Heritage, a dedicated staff of botanists and ecologists, including Allen Belden, Phil Coulling, Gary Fleming, Chris Ludwig, Kathleen McCoy, Shelly Parrish, Gina Pisoni, Nancy
Van Alstine, Dean Walton, Karen Patterson, Kristin Taverna, Irvine Wilson, Mike Leahy, and Darren Loomis have provided many comments to refine the content of the lists.
Dean Walton’s keen interest in and understanding of non-vascular plants and their rarity in the state of Virginia and elsewhere, and has been instrumental in the listing of nonvascular
plants herein. In addition to Heritage staff, the work of the Virginia Atlas Committee allows us a much greater understanding of the status of our botanical heritage. Our
thanks go out to Alton Harvill, Ted Bradley, Doug Coleman, Gary Fleming, Doug Ogle, Gwynn Ramsey, Donna Ware, Tom Weiboldt, and Robert Wright.
Recent regional floristic work by Alan Weakley has also been of great assistance, particularly regarding recent taxonomic and nomenclatural changes.
