L’ultimo aspetto che vorrei menzionare è l’annotazione. L’insieme delle note costituisce il metatesto, e quest’ultimo è solitamente referenziale. Le note di Alice in Wonderland informano il lettore a proposito delle funzioni conative dell’originale. Il problema dei giochi di parole o delle battute è che spiegandoli se ne annulla l’effetto, “uccidendole”: una battuta che ha bisogno di essere spiegata è “morta e sepolta” 11 . Inoltre il lettore riceve due testi: uno in cui i nomi sembrano puramente identificativi o referenziali, e un altro che spiega perché questi ultimi non sono puramente referenziali. Questo procedimento cambia necessariamente l’intero effetto comunicativo del testo. A mio avviso la decisione a favore o contro le annotazioni deve essere guidata dal tipo di orientamento al destinatario. Per dei lettori adulti può essere interessante leggere entrambi i testi, con testo a fronte oppure uno dopo l’altro. Per i bambini sarà probabilmente sufficiente un solo testo. Di conseguenza, nel nostro corpus, le annotazioni e i commenti dei traduttori si trovano solo nelle versioni per adulti (DE-ENZ e ES). 11 Nord cita l’espressione idiomatica «as dead as a Dodo» (cfr. par. 4.2), applicandola all’affermazione appena fatta [N.d.T.]. 68
