SHOWROOM
ITALY, MILAN
In June 2006 Dornbracht
opened a new subsidiary and
showroom in Italy. The loft,
with an area of 500 m 2 , is located
on the Naviglio Grande
canal in the centre of the
Milan’s old town. This particular
quarter is frequented
by artists, creative minds and
young people and is seen as
the avant-garde hotbed for
art and culture of both the
city of Milan and Italy.
Three floors in the typical
architecture of an old industrial
building have been
converted into a showroom,
characterised by the company’s
cultural identity. An
impressive collage was installed,
covering the entire
wall surface, which documents
the highlights of the
Dornbracht Culture Projects.
Tall glass facades and an old
vaulted ceiling with a large
attic window give the show-
room a feeling of airiness.
The bathroom and kitchen
product series are integrated
in separate exhibition areas.
The target group of the new
concept are architects, designers
and opinion leaders.
The Italian subsidiary is the
fifth in Europe after Austria,
France, the United Kingdom
and Spain along with three
others worldwide in the USA,
Mexico and Asia Pacific.
There are plans to open further
subsidiaries in China and
the Middle East in the near
future. Despite advancing internationalisation,
the production
of the Iserlohn family-run
concern remains true
to the company philosophy
of 100 % made in Germany.
SHOWROOM IN
ITALIA, MILANO
Nel giugno 2006 sono stati
inaugurati la filiale e lo
showroom Dornbracht in
Italia. Il loft di 500 mq si
trova lungo il canale del Naviglio
Grande nel centro storico
di Milano. Questo particolare
quartiere è frequentato
da artisti, creativi e giovani
ed è considerato un laboratorio
dell’avanguardia artistica
e culturale della città di
Milano e d’Italia.
Tre piani di un edificio dalla
tipica architettura di un vecchio
padiglione industriale
sono stati trasformati in
uno showroom, caratterizzato
dall’identità culturale dell’
azienda. L’installazione di
un collage imponente, che
copre la superficie complessiva
delle pareti, documenta i
punti salienti dei Dornbracht
Culture Projects. Le alte vetrate
e l’antico soffitto a volta
con un grande lucernario
conferiscono allo showroom
un effetto arioso. L’inte-
grazione delle serie di prodotti
per il bagno e la cucina
avviene in zone espositive
separate. Destinatari della
nuova ambientazione sono
architetti, designer e opinion
leader. Dopo l’Austria, la
Francia, la Gran Bretagna e
la Spagna la filiale italiana è
la quinta in Europa. Nel
mondo si aggiungono inoltre
quelle degli USA, del
Messico e dell’area Asia
Pacifico. Prossimamente è
prevista l’apertura di ulteriori
filiali in Cina e in Medio
Oriente. Nonostante la progressivainternazionalizzazione,
la produzione dell’impresa
familiare di Iserlohn
rimane fedele alla filosofia
aziendale del 100 % Made in
Germany.
SHOWROOM
ITALIA, MILÁN
En junio de 2006 se inauguró
la filial y showroom de
Dornbracht en Italia. El loft
de 500 m 2 está situado en el
Canal Naviglio Grande, en el
centro del casco antiguo de
Milán. Este barrio especial
es frecuentado por artistas,
creativos y gente joven, y
se considera un laboratorio
vanguardista del arte y la
cultura de la ciudad de Milán
y de Italia.
Tres niveles de la arquitectura
típica de una antigua nave
industrial se han transformado
en una showroom, marcada
por la identidad cultural
del empresario. Así, se ha
instalado un impresionante
collage que cubre toda la
superficie de la pared, y que
documenta lo más destacado
de los Dornbracht Culture
Projects. Las altas fachadas
de cristal, así como un antiguo
techo abovedado con
grandes ventanas, confieren
a la showroom un encanto
aéreo. La integración de las
series de productos para el
baño y la cocina se realiza en
zonas separadas de la exposición.
El grupo objetivo del
nuevo concepto son los arquitectos,
los diseñadores y
los líderes de opinión. La
filial italiana es la quinta de
Europa, después de Austria,
Francia, Gran Bretaña y
España. A nivel mundial cabe
añadir los EE.UU, Méjico y
Asia-Pacífico. Está planificada
la apertura de otras
filiales en China y en Oriente
Medio dentro de poco. A
pesar de la avanzada internacionalización,
la producción
de la empresa familiar
de Iserlohn sigue siendo
100 % Made in Germany, fiel
a la filosofía de la empresa.
FROM ISERLOHN
VIA ZURICH TO
NEW YORK: THE
DIALOGUE CON-
CERNING RITUAL
ARCHITECTURE IS
BECOMING MORE
INTERNATIONAL
It began in 2003 with the
research initiated by Dornbracht
at the ETH Zurich.
This is where the highly acclaimed
“Ritual & Hygiene”
course took place, led by
Professor Marc Angélil, dealing
with the question of
architectural appreciation of
the hygiene concept and the
human body. The results of
the study were documented
in 2005 in the book “Bad
ohne Zimmer – Architektur
und Intimität. Bathroom Unplugged
– Architecture and
Intimacy” (Birkhäuser Verlag
ISBN 3-7643-7232-X). Since
then the dialogue concerning
ritual architecture has become
increasingly intense –
and international in nature.
The latest example: a podium
discussion in New
York, attended by William
W. Braham from the University
of Pennsylvania,
Andreas Dornbracht, managing
director of Dornbracht,
Bennett Friedman, Design
Director AFNY, New York,
Mike Meiré, designer and
creative director of the Meiré
and Meiré agency, Cologne
and Robin Osler, head of
EOA Architects, New York.
Title and subject of the discussion:
“RITUAL ARCHI-
TECTURE – PHILOSOPHY /
PRACTICE / PERCEPTION /
PERSPECTIVE”. The discussion
is moderated by Mitchell
Owens, Senior Interior Design
Editor of the US magazine
PIÙ INTER-
NAZIONALE
L’inizio è avvenuto nel 2003
con le ricerche avviate da
Dornbracht alla ETH di
Zurigo. Sotto la direzione del
prof. Marc Angélil si è tenuto
in quella sede il seminario
molto apprezzato su “Rituale
e igiene”, che ha affrontato il
problema della comprensione
architettonica del concetto di
igiene e di corpo umano. I
risultati dello studio sono stati
documentati nel 2005 nel
libro “Bad ohne Zimmer –
Architektur und Intimität”
(casa editrice Birkhäuser
Verlag ISBN 3-7643-7232-X).
Da allora il dialogo sull’architettura
rituale è stato
costantemente approfondito –
e internazionalizzato. L’esempio
più recente: una tavola
rotonda a New York, alla
quale hanno partecipato
William W. Braham dell’Università
di Pennsylvania,
Andreas Dornbracht, direttore
di Dornbracht, Bennett
