DORNBRACHT the SPIRITof WATER Editorial
THE
SPIRIT
OF
WATER
The first edition is sold out. Good.
We are very pleased that the SPIRITof WATER
Vol. 1 proved so popular. We received praise, appreciation
and recognition from a variety of different
sources. The new concept – magazine on the one
hand, catalogue on the other – was awarded gold
in “BCP Best of Corporate Publishing”, Europe’s
largest competition for corporate communication.
With this in mind we welcome theSPIRITof WATER
Vol. 1.2, the current update to the first edition. We
decided on the principle of “update” as this allows
us to integrate news and new topics into the
magazine quickly and easily. The alternative would
have been an unchanged 2 nd edition, a reprint, – in
our opinion a less colourful option. For example,
we have supplemented the section “What’s new?”
with many up-to-date tips and background information
and included an essay by design critic
Markus Frenzl researching the question of why
some things in design are now coming back into
fashion. This edition also includes a detailed
report on the recently published magazine ISER-
LOHN – the Dornbracht Culture Projects Vol. 2,
which documents our cultural commitment, discusses
our cultural identity and more – as well as
08
a multipage document on the first – and internationally
acclaimed – Dornbracht Edges project
on the subject of the kitchen: “The Farm Project”
by Mike Meiré.
The subject of physicality is also new. It appears
again, for instance, in a report on the Dornbrachtsponsored
exhibition INTO ME / OUT OF ME at
the P.S.1, New York, or in the detailed documentation
on the new TARA .LOGIC series, which
you have already seen on the cover of this issue.
The major part remains the same, however, such
as the BALANCE MODULES documentation,
which illustrates that we have reached the point
where we think beyond classical design. In other
words, we no longer exclusively design fittings
series for the bathroom and kitchen, interiors and
accessories, but also the water itself. As with the
BALANCE MODULES we have created new
products where form deliberately retreats into the
background, becoming almost invisible. The real
attraction, the actual “design” is the flow of water.
The awareness of this approach is largely the
result of many years of intensive discussion on the
subject of “ritual architecture in the bathroom”.
What has also been maintained is that a particular
part of the SPIRITof WATER is dedicated to the
kitchen: we very recently introduced new products
which were specially designed for the kitchen.
Products that combine precisely everything which
in our opinion constitutes a kitchen: function and
emotion. We do however offer a special edition
of the SPIRITof WATER / kitchen, which you
can order from us if you would like further
information on this subject. Something else that
remains unchanged in this connection is the interesting
article “Food Spirit – Food between hightech
and authenticity” by Stephan Sigrist, a senior
researcher at the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institut.
In conclusion, I would like to draw your attention
– just as I did in the 1 st edition – to the essay by the
author Ingeborg Harms. On the subject of “The
return of beauty” she writes, inter alia the
following: “Beauty is therefore not a certain proportion,
not a polished surface, not a miseen-scène
meeting all the scholarly rules, but the
Unknown, which arouses our interest in the world
with an electric shock, so that the way of things
again has to reckon with us.”
Allow yourself to be inspired.
Yours, Andreas Dornbracht
La prima edizione è esaurita. Bene.
Siamo molto lieti che the SPIRITof WATER Vol. 1
sia stato accolto con un tale successo. Da varie
direzioni abbiamo ricevuto lodi, riconoscimenti
e conferme. Al “BCP Best of Corporate Publishing”,
parte rivista e parte catalogo – è stata subito premiata
the SPIRITof WATER Vol. 1.2, l’aggiornamento
del primo numero. Abbiamo scelto la forma
“update”, perché in questo modo è possibile integrare
rapidamente novità e temi nuovi all’interno
della rivista. L’alternativa sarebbe stata una 2ª
edizione invariata, una ristampa – secondo noi
una scelta incolore. Così abbiamo potuto arricchire
ad esempio la rubrica “What’s new?” con
molte segnalazioni attuali e informazioni ulteriori.
design. Inoltre in questo numero è presente un
servizio approfondito sulla rivista recentemente
pubblicata ISERLOHN – the Dornbracht Culture
Andreas Dornbracht, exhibition opening “Into Me / Out of Me”, New York
Photography by Robert Fischer
livello internazionale – progetto Dornbracht
Edges, dedicato al tema della cucina: “The Farm
Project” di Mike Meiré.
Nuovo è anche il tema della fisicità. Si trova ad
esempio un articolo sulla mostra patrocinata da
Dornbracht INTO ME / OUT OF ME al P.S.1
di New York. O un servizio dettagliato sulla
nuova serie di rubinetterie TARA .LOGIC, che
è già stata menzionata in copertina.
MODULES abbiamo concepito nuovi prodotti,
quasi invisibile. L’attrazione vera, il
“design” essenziale è lo scorrere dell’acqua. La
DORNBRACHT the SPIRITof WATER Editorial
in bagno”.
E abbiamo ripreso anche questo: una sezione
speciale di the SPIRITof WATER è dedicata
alla cucina. Perché negli ultimi tempi abbiamo
introdotto nuovi prodotti espressamente concepiti
per la cucina. Prodotti che uniscono esattamente
ciò che, a nostro parere, caratterizza
la cucina: funzionalità ed emozione. Abbiamo
sull’argomento. A tale riguardo è rimasto anche
l’interessante contributo “Food Spirit – Alimentazione
tra high-tech e autenticità” di Stephan
Sigrist, Senior Researcher al Gottlieb Duttweiler
Institut.
