Il paradiso dopo<br />
Indonesia, oggi. Una barca solca lentamente un grande fiume<br />
immerso nella natura. Dalle immagini, intervallate da rapide<br />
dissolvenze in nero, emergono gradualmente i segni e le tracce<br />
dell’uomo: involucri di plastica depositati sulle rive, stracci<br />
appesi agli alberi e in lontananza gli edifici di una grande città.<br />
E mentre una voce fuori campo recita passi da Cuore di tenebra<br />
di Joseph Conrad, ci addentriamo in un paesaggio letteralmente<br />
invaso da rifiuti e spazzatura, ma in cui i pescatori non hanno<br />
perso la speranza di catturare qualche preda con le loro reti,<br />
i bambini giocano nell’acqua e le capre si aggirano alla ricerca<br />
di cibo. Presentato in anteprima al Festival di Berlino del 2010.<br />
Indonesia today. A boat slowly travels down a large river surrounded<br />
by nature. What emerge from the flow of images cut<br />
by black-out sequences are the signs of human civilization: piles<br />
of garbage cover the riverbanks, trash hangs from trees, a city<br />
skyline on the horizon. While an off-camera voice narrates excerpts<br />
from Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, we enter a world<br />
invaded by refuse and garbage, where fishermen cast their nets<br />
in the hope of catching something, children play in the water,<br />
and goats graze for food. Previewed at the 2010 Berlin Festival.<br />

Ascan Breuer ha studiato<br />
comunicazione, sociologia e<br />
psicologia all’Università di Vienna,<br />
prima di frequentare l’Accademia di<br />
arti mediali a Colonia. Ha esordito<br />
nel 2005 con il documentario Forst<br />
e ha quindi realizzato i cortometraggi<br />
Paradise Later, Theran - Lost & Found<br />
e The Kurukshetra-Report.<br />
Ascan Breuer studied<br />
communication, sociology and<br />
psychology at the University<br />
of Vienna before attending the<br />
Academy of Media Arts, Cologne.<br />
His debut film was the documentary,<br />
Forst (2005), followed by the shorts,<br />
Paradise Later, Theran - Lost &<br />
Found and The Kurukshetra-Report.
