L’inumazione naturale è il processo secondo il quale il corpo è
interrato nel suolo senza inibire in alcun modo il processo di decomposizione
così da permettere una vera e propria simbiosi finale
con l’ambiente dai notevoli benefici anche in termini ecologici.
Il primo esempio di area interamente dedicata a tale pratica
funeraria è nata nel 1993 a Carlisle, una piccola cittadina inglese
al confine con la Scozia. Sarah Thomas esplora invece il sito di
Barton Glebe, inaugurato nel 2000 vicino a Cambridge, sempre
in Inghilterra, facendo così emergere, grazie anche alle interviste
con persone più o meno legate a questo luogo, un nuovo modo
di affrontare e considerare la morte.
Natural burial refers to the practice by which a body is buried
without inhibiting its decomposition, thus allowing it to enter
into symbiosis with the environment and produce ecological benefit.
In 1993, the first area set aside for natural burial was in
Carlisle in the north of England near the border with Scotland.
Sarah Thomas went to Barton Glebe, inaugurated in 2000 near
Cambridge, England, to interview people more or less connected
with the burial site and to find out about this new way of dealing
with final matters.
