Ogni anno, solo negli Stati Uniti, oltre quaranta milioni di tonnellate<br />
di cibo vengono buttate nella spazzatura, circa mille e<br />
cinquecento chilogrammi al secondo. Un dato assurdo e spaventoso<br />
(anche da un punto di vista economico), se pensiamo che si<br />
tratta di materiale alimentare spesso intatto e ancora del tutto<br />
commestibile. Jeremy Seifert ha così deciso, insieme ad alcuni<br />
amici, di analizzare ciò che i supermercati di Los Angeles eliminano<br />
a fine giornata per verificare se si tratta effettivamente di<br />
scarti inutilizzabili. Si immergeranno quindi letteralmente nella<br />
produzione di rifiuti della loro città: il risultato, così come quanto<br />
recuperato, sarà impressionante.<br />
Each year, over 40 million tons of food, about 1500 kilograms<br />
a second, are thrown away in the United States alone. An incredibly<br />
wasteful act, also economically, considering that much<br />
of it is still intact and edible. Together with friends, Jeremy Seifert<br />
wanted to analyze what Los Angeles supermarkets dump at<br />
day’s end and to determine whether it really is unusable. They<br />
literally dive into the production of the city’s garbage: the result,<br />
like the amount recovered, is truly impressive.<br />
