Petali di fiori che galleggiano nell’acqua scura, animali che si aggirano<br />
tra rifiuti, uomini alla ricerca di oggetti preziosi, flemmatici<br />
pescatori e automobili ferme che sembrano osservare l’orizzonte.<br />
Sono solo alcune delle immagini raccolte dalla regista tese<br />
a descrivere e raccontare la quotidianità della Broad Channel<br />
Island, l’unica isola popolata (poco più di tremila abitanti) della<br />
Jamaica Bay, situata a sud di Brooklyn, New York. Il risultato è<br />
un ritratto di un vero e proprio ecosistema, in cui gesti e azioni<br />
cullate dal placido rumore delle onde sulla spiaggia o sulle rocce<br />
si ripetono sempre uguali con il mutare delle stagioni.<br />
Flower petals floating on dark water, animals scavenging in garbage,<br />
men rummaging for precious objects, motionless fishermen<br />
and parked cars that seem to observe the horizon. These are just<br />
some of the impressions the filmmaker collected in an attempt<br />
to describe daily life on Broad Channel Island, the only populated<br />
island (about 3000 inhabitants) in Jamaica Bay, south of<br />
Brooklyn, New York. The result is a portrait of a unique ecosystem,<br />
where movement and action accompanied by gentle waves<br />
breaking on the beach or the rocks repeat the same rhythm<br />
across the seasons.<br />
