Arctic Spleen<br />
La Groenlandia dell’Est vanta il triste primato del più alto tasso<br />
di suicidi giovanili del mondo: la percentuale dei ragazzi tra<br />
i quindici e i venticinque anni che si toglie la vita ogni anno è<br />
infatti del due per cento. I motivi di una dato così preoccupante<br />
sono antichi e moderni nello stesso tempo. Da un lato essi affondano<br />
infatti nella stessa cultura inuit per cui fino a tutti gli anni<br />
Settanta l’uomo che non era più in grado di sostenere la propria<br />
famiglia si incamminava verso i ghiacci per non fare più ritorno.<br />
Dall’altro, però, derivano dal recente impatto con il modello<br />
occidentale che ha comportato la drammatica scomparsa degli<br />
antichi e tradizionali stili di vita. Musica di Massimo Zamboni,<br />

East Greenland holds the sad record of having the world’s highest<br />
juvenile suicide rate: 2% of 15-to-25-year-olds die of suicide<br />
every year. The causes for this unusually high incidence are both<br />
ancient and modern. Its roots can be traced to the Inuit culture:<br />
until the 1970s, if a man was no long able to provide for his family,<br />
he walked away into the icy wasteland never to return; a more<br />
recent cause derives from Western lifestyle replacing customary<br />
