The Last Woodcutter
Prea, un paesino delle Alpi nel Piemonte meridionale. Un gruppo
di amici, tutti residenti nella zona, decidono di far rivivere
l’epopea dei buscatiè, i boscaioli che un tempo vivevano e lavoravano
tra le montagne della regione. Grazie all’esperienza del
vecchio Barba Ninu si dedicheranno quindi a riti ormai dimenticati
come l’abbattimento dei faggi e dei castagni, il trasporto
della fune d’acciaio e il suo tiraggio a mano mediante un tornio
appositamente costruito o il trasporto a valle sulle slitte della
legna tagliata. Attori non professionisti e suono interamente
registrato in presa diretta per un racconto non basato sulla parola,
ma sul fluire di gesti e azioni dei protagonisti.
Prea, an alpine hamlet in southern Piedmont. A group of friends
living in the area decide to relive the experience of the buscatiè,
the woodcutters who once lived and worked in the local mountains.
From old Barba Ninu they learn the now forgotten practices
of felling beech and chestnut trees, transporting the wood on
steel cables, pulling it by hand using a specially made turret lathe,
and sledding it downslope to the valley bottom. Filmed with amateur
actors and sound recorded live to create a story not based
on words but rather on the movement and action of the actors.
