Lucy Walker ha diretto numerosi<br />
cortometraggi, prima di esordire<br />
nel lungometraggio con il<br />
documentario Devil’s Playground<br />
(2002), a cui è seguito, nel 2006,<br />
Blindsight. Ha quindi realizzato<br />
Waste Land Countdown to Zero,<br />
entrambi presentati nel 2010 al<br />
Sundance Film Festival.<br />
Lucy Walker directed numerous<br />
shorts before filming her first<br />
feature documentary, Devil’s<br />
Playground (2002), followed by<br />
Blindsight (2006), Waste Land and<br />
Countdown to Zero, both presented<br />
at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.<br />

Vik Muniz è un artista brasiliano, celebre per i suoi ritratti creati<br />
utilizzando materiali trovati nel luogo in cui vivono i soggetti<br />
delle opere. Lucy Walker ha deciso di seguire Muniz nel suo nuovo<br />
progetto ambientato in una delle più grandi discariche del<br />
mondo, Jardim Gramacho, alla periferia di Rio de Janeiro. L’impatto<br />
con questo luogo cambia l’idea iniziale dell’artista che deciderà<br />
di coinvolgere un gruppo di catadores, ragazzi che vivono raccogliendo<br />
rifiuti, in una vera e propria rielaborazione attraverso<br />
l’arte dei propri desideri e della loro stessa esistenza. Musiche di<br />
un protagonista della musica elettronica come Moby.<br />
Brazilian-born artist Vik Muniz is famous for his portraits composed<br />
of materials recycled from the objects he finds in the<br />
subject’s surroundings. Lucy Walker accompanies Muniz on his<br />
latest project to one of the world’s largest city dumps: Jardim<br />
Gramacho on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. Muniz’s initial idea<br />
for the project is radically changed by the impact with the location;<br />
he decides to involve a group of catadores - children that<br />
earn their livelihood by trash picking - and to rework the concept<br />
through a collage of images reflecting their desires and lives.<br />
