Nell’eternità<br />
Nei pochi decenni dalla costruzione della prima centrale atomica<br />
sono state prodotte oltre duecentocinquantamila tonnellate di<br />
rifiuti radioattivi che saranno smaltiti in non meno di centomila<br />
anni. In Finlandia, per poter custodire le scorie al riparo da calamità<br />
naturali o disastri causati dall’uomo, si sta costruendo Onkalo:<br />
un immenso deposito realizzato per accogliere materiale<br />
nucleare di scarto e conservarlo per decine di migliaia di anni. Si<br />
tratta in realtà di un progetto aberrante e poco concretizzabile<br />
che pone inquietanti interrogativi sulla sorte del pianeta: come<br />
e a chi si comunicherà, per esempio, in un futuro così lontano la<br />
pericolosità di quanto stoccato?<br />
In the few decades since the first nuclear power plant went into<br />
operation, over 250,000 tons of radioactive waste will need to<br />
be disposed of in the next 100,000 years. In order to store the<br />
waste in a place safe from natural or man-made disasters, a<br />
huge site is being constructed in Onkalo, Finland. The project is<br />
as unfeasible as it is inconceivable: how and to whom should the<br />
danger of these stockpiles be communicated in the far-off future?<br />
