Isao Takahata ha esordito nel
lungometraggio cinematografico nel
1968 con La grande avventura del
piccolo principe Valiant e nel 1985 ha
fondato, insieme a Hayao Miyazaki,
lo Studio Ghibli per cui ha realizzato,
tra gli altri, Una tomba per le lucciole
(1988) e Pom Poko (1994).

together with Hayao Miyazaki, he
founded the Studio Ghibli in 1985,
for which he has made Grave of
the Fireflies (1988) and Pom Poko
(1994), among other titles.

Giappone, 2006. Un gruppo di tanuki, animali fisicamente simili
ai procioni, ma appartenenti alla famiglia dei canidi, sono
costretti ad abbandonare le loro abitazioni tra le colline nei dintorni
di Tokyo a causa della costruzione di nuovi edifici da parte
dell’uomo. Sempre più in difficoltà a trovare cibo e nuovi rifugi,
decideranno quindi di unirsi e lottare insieme per preservare il
proprio habitat grazie all’antica arte della trasformazione che
hanno perfezionato e in virtù della capacità di muoversi su due
gambe come gli esseri umani. Prodotto dallo Studio Ghibli da un
soggetto di Hayao Miyazaki e premiato ad Annecy come miglior
lungometraggio, il film è uscito in Italia solo nel 2011.
Japan, 2006. A group of tanuki, animals physically resembling
raccoons but members of the canid family, are forced to leave
their natural habitat in the hills around Tokyo because of pressure
from urban development. Finding themselves increasingly
without food or shelter, they join forces to defend their homeland
through the ancient art of transformation they have perfected,
thanks to their ability to walk on two legs like humans. Produced
by the Studio Ghibli, based on an idea by Hayao Miyazaki, the
film won the Best Feature Award at Annecy.
