Thus a more or less unknown person came to life when his autobiographical story “Dream of Fair to Middling Women” was published four years after he had passed away. The story presents a Beckett who seems to be bubbling over with humour, irony, and energy. He tells the reader about his early love for Peggy Sinclair, daughter of an art dealer, who lived in the town of Kassel with her family. The radio play which is based solely on this “Kassel” chapter starts by introducing its hero, who is called Bel. Travelling back from Paris this young lover is afflicted by doubts and colic. He wants to spend Christmas and New Year‘s Eve with Peggy and her family. Immer dein, Tuissimus - Un chapitre de "Dream" Beckett n’avait à peu près rien laissé filtrer en public de sa vie privée. Aussi, c’est quasiment un inconnu que révéla, quatre ans après sa mort, la publication du roman autobiographique « Dream of Fair to Middling Women ». Ce roman nous montre un Beckett débordant d’humour, d’ironie et d’énergie vitale. Il raconte un amour de jeunesse de l’auteur pour Peggy Sinclair, la fille d’un marchand d’art, vivant avec sa famille à Cassel. Le héros se nomme Bel. Lorsque commence la pièce radiophonique, basée sur le seul chapitre intitulé « Cassel », Bel arrive de Paris, jeune amoureux torturé de doutes et de coliques, et il s’apprête à fêter Noël et la Saint-Sylvestre avec Peggy et sa famille. Immer dein, Tuissimus - un capitolo da "Dream" Beckett non aveva lasciato filtrare in pubblico quasi nulla della sua vita privata. Inoltre, è quasi uno sconosciuto quello che rivelò, quattro anni dopo la sua morte, la pubblicazione del romanzo autobiografico "Dream of Fair to Middling Women". Questo romanzo ci mostra un Beckett traboccante d'umorismo, d’ironia e di energia vitale. Racconta di un amore di gioventù dell'autore per Peggy Sinclair, la figlia di un mercante d'arte, che vive con la famiglia a Kassel. On the crate, in black, are the words: "Atlantis Tapes". The sea chart is of the Atlantic Ocean. The lid of the crate is jammed. Russia is broken up in a whirlwind, Europe a zone of insecurity. Great Atlantis is destroyed; people are hungry, and dying.The writer and dramatist Heiner Müller and the visual artist Joseph Beuys, one from the East, the other from the West do not have much in common.They never met but they invented utopias that are a far cry from the Utopia of legend. They arrange a journey to Atlantis – the place of all places. In their baggage: Francis Bacon's 1626 description of an imaginary voyage as well as tapes with O-tones, narratives, theories, sounds. " What we don't find in the future, we seek in the past." (Heiner Müller) Atlantis Tapes Deux hommes et un magnétophone. Smokey et Dusty. Assis sur une caisse blanche. Devant eux, une carte marine. Sur la caisse, une inscription à l’encre noire: ATLANTIS TAPES. Sur la carte marine est inscrit ATLANTIC OCEAN. Le couvercle de la caisse est coincé. La Russie s’est dissoute dans un tourbillon. L’Europe est une zone d’insécurité. Détruite, la grande Atlantide. On meurt de faim. Et on meurt, tout court. Cette scène est le point de départ de "Atlantis tapes", une pièce imaginaire sur deux artistes allemands, devenus des icônes du XX° siècle : l’écrivain et dramaturge Heiner Müller et l’artiste plasticien Joseph Beuys. L’un est originaire de la partie Est de l’Allemagne, l’autre de l’Ouest. Ils n’ont guère de points communs. A moins que…? Certes, ils ne se sont jamais rencontrés mais tous deux ont développé des utopies étrangères au pays conventionnel d’Utopia. Ils se présentent par exemple avec chapeau de feutre et cigare, organisent un voyage pour l’Atlantide – le Saint des Saints. Dans leurs bagages, le rapport de voyage de Francis Bacon (1626) ainsi que des bandes magnétiques pleines de sons originaux, de narrations, de théories, d’effets sonores. "Le plus marquant de l’intérêt porté à ATLANTIS, c’est qu’il n’apparaît qu’après la déception provoquée par l’histoire ou l’utopie politique. Ce que l’on ne trouve plus dans l’avenir, on le recherche dans le passé. (Heiner Müller)
