2 MAGIC WAVE _March 2009 Rusty Gromfest Keramas Goes Off! Clear skies, light wind, and grinding three-foot waves welcomed stoked grommets to Keramas, Rusty Gromfest Series 2009. It was eager to start proceedings and sent the first heat into the lineup at 7: 0am. In the under division Koko Mitsua Antara, Ediana Putra, Angus Steeles and Hayden Welch surfed impressively. Angus and Hayden met in the first round and were unstoppable as they surfed their way into the finals together. Blacky ran out of juice after competing in both divisions while Ediana hacked and slashed his way into second place. The first round of the under 16 division saw two familiar surfers light it up- Agus- Frimanto and Putra Hermawan. In the end Putra took top honors and was crowned the Rusty Gromfest Keramas Champ! Agus finished a close second and also received the ‘Sabre Madness Award’ for pulling some mental airs which raised the bar and left the crowd frothing! VOLCOM STONE’S GECKOFISH SURF SERIES SANUR, PELEMBENG BEACH, BALI Sunday, 15th February 2009 It seems that the sun really favors Volcom Stone’s Geckofish Surf Series last Sunday, as it was blaring from start to finish that day. The waves started slow at the beginning of the day but it got better and better as the contest progresses. First up was the Under s. Lembongan’s Kadek Ediana Putra was totally ripping, he blew away all his competition and led the scoreboard from qualifications round up to the finals and ended up snagging the first place. The finals of the Under 17s was a real nail biter, where the four finalists competed neck in neck with radical maneuvers such as air, snap and round house cut back and raking up in points. It was a tight heat but Putra Hermawan came out on top, beating Putu Anggara to a second place just by a few points. The Pro-Am division also had the finalists dropping seriously big airs, but too bad points for Putra Hermawan and Wayan Susiana had to be cut in half due to drop in violations. Tia Nustawan was the one who then won the first place. The prize presentation was held after the contestants enjoyed their free lunch and it was raining Volcom giveaways at the end of the day.
