viiiACTING ON A VISIONYAB Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, thePrime Minister has outlined a clear vision to achievinga developed nation status which prioritises the wellbeing ofits people. His commitment is that no Malaysian, at homeor abroad, should feel left out from Malaysia’s progress.To achieve this vision, the government has entrusted thepublic service to discharge and implement its pledge inrealising the eight transformational pillars for the nation’sdevelopment agenda.The “1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now” vision andthe Government Transformation Programme are the primefocus of the government. These two pillars, supported bythe New Economic Model and the Tenth Malaysia Plan, formthe main foundation of the public service delivery culturetoday in ensuring the people achieve a high-income anddeveloped nation status in its own mould.In supporting this, public officials have to transform the waywe think and act. We must do so to accelerate the changesin the socioeconomic landscape of the country. The speedat which decisions are made and actions implementedmust be the overarching principles and practices of allpublic officials. The development of the creative mind andthe passion for innovation are encouraged and must benurtured to maximise customer satisfaction whilst ensuring“value for money” service delivery.
