First, each of them is the religion of God. Theirfounders on earth—Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus—are theprophets of God. What they have conveyed the Torah, thePsalms, the Evangels-are revelations from God. To believe inthese prophets, in the revelations they have brought, is integralto the very faith of Islam. To disbelieve them—nay, todiscriminate between them—is apostasy”. (al-Faruqi & al-Faruqi1986: 191).DJOHAN EFFENDI ADALAH SALAH SATU SOSOK PENTING DALAM UPAYApengembangan kehidupan keagamaan yang lebih dialogis, harmonis,dan toleran dalam era Indonesia modern. Kehidupan keagamaan—baik intra maupun antaragama—seperti itu tentu saja merupakankebutuhan yang senantiasa harus diperjuangkan, bukan hanya untukumat beragama itu sendiri, tapi juga untuk ke penting an keberlanjut -an negara-bangsa Indonesia.Mas Djohan—sebagaimana ia biasa dipanggil—dalam berbagaikapasitas yang dipegangnya, baik dalam struktur negara maupun dilingkungan ’civil society’, selalu berusaha mendorong terciptanyakehidupan keagamaan yang penuh toleransi, yang kondusif untukkemajuan bangsa.
