Maia Khachidze AFFECTED PATHOS Summary The publication relates about matchmaker, an exceptionally colorful figure in Georgian literature. It represents a personage, who plays a certain role in life, i.e. feels herself on the stage while being in the actual reality. This image without mask is unimaginable. The phenomenon of a matchmaker is a theatrical image by itself and this was not left unnoticed by the Georgian stage. There are portrayed exceptionally interesting character personages in literary works by I. Chavchavadze, A. Tsagareli, D. Kldiashvili by use of the image of matchmaker. The writers managed to transfer this colorful character in their novels and made it a literary personage. The portrayal of the personage is realistic and unique in each case. They appear before us as characters of different nature, temperament, and culture. The essence of this figure gives the authors opportunity to express their attitude towards false, made up activities as a whole by its generalization. Existence of this kind themes, ideas, and personages proves that artistic work of a writer is inconceivable in isolation; it becomes a participant of the literary processes, although every writer builds an artistic world in a unique way even when its essence lies in well known themes or problems.
