the Hava Platinum HD Box to our LAN
and attached the component signals
from a satellite receiver.
The Hava Box can process signals in
PAL and NTSC and can handle HDTV resolutions
of 1080, 720 and 480. At the
moment these are limited to NTSC; for
PAL only the 576 resolution is available.
Hava is feverishly working on a new
model that will also be able to handle
high resolution content in PAL.
This means that for our tests we have
to limit ourselves to SD programming.
Nevertheless, we were ready to get
started and our man in our distant New
York test center was very happy with the
idea of watching German TV. We started
the receiver, activated the Hava Box and
sent an e-mail to our colleague in New
York with all the necessary access data
that we previously set up in our box using

nection was created in just a few seconds
and not long after that we received
the enthusiastic reply from New York: a
top-quality signal is being received!
It‘s not surprising, our high-speed
Internet connection permitted transmission
speeds of nearly 4 Mbit/s; this
is similar to satellite data transmission
speeds. The receiver that we used was
unfortunately not in the lengthy preprogrammed
list but Jim suggested that it
was not a problem at all. Hava is very

German TV via an Internet stream in a bar in Taiwan
helpful here and can quickly provide the
necessary IR codes in those cases when
a receiver isn‘t in the list.
It turns out that the Hava Box can not
only stream via the Internet but also in
a local network. Of course we wanted
to also take a closer look at this function.
While our colleague in New York was
busy watching German TV, we used a
laptop with WLAN to distribute the signal
locally. We were able to do that without
any interference or video dropouts! Up

the Hava Box at the same time.
Because of the large bandwidth the
connection via the Internet is limited
to only one user but locally a higher
data rate can be used compared to the
Internet. This leads to other possibilities
for the Hava Box such as transmitting
a security camera signal to multiple
PC‘s in the same building or also via the
Internet. Thanks to the Time Shift and
Recording functions, these signals can
be recorded and archived.
With this concept, Jim has been able
to convince larger companies such as
casinos that they can easily record and
archive their security camera signals
using one or more Hava Boxes.
Jim has used this technology to greatly
expand his business and for that we congratulate
him!
