Methodological Possibilities of Comparative Literary Studies

Comparative studies imply the realization of that universal method
which interprets the concrete literary text in a wide general perspective.
A brief overview of the development of literary studies confirms that
literary theory, from Aristotle to Bakhtin, step by step was expanding the
frontiers of text analyses. In the beginning of the 20 th century literary
discourse faced the fundamental changes and was linked with the excess of
diversity of theoretical schools. A multi-interpretational space was created,
which was reunited by the principle of interdisciplinary studies. The most
important achievement of interdisciplinary researches was the creation of a
general humanitarian research space. Multi-interpretational and
interdisciplinary methods were spread on the level of various national
literatures. This process has brought an output of European and world scale
significance: rise of comparative studies.
An aesthetic principle of comparative literature can be defined as the
rapprochement to each other. Analogies without contact provide synthesis
of concrete texts in the special creative pattern - inter-literature dialogue. In
the epoch of globalization inter-literature dialogue has prolonged its
frontiers and is logically transformed into the intercultural dialogue. Thus,
the most topical theme of contemporary comparative researches is the
understanding of a literary system in a wide cultural perspective.
Even though, the process due with the epoch of globalization, national
novel is not avoided. Comparative studies go beyond the boundaries of
national characteristics and establish the rate of integration of different
national cultures and literatures on the condition to preserve their cultural
identity.
