Situated at the heart of the site is the
development’s most prominent feature, Stesen
Sentral Kuala Lumpur, which was officially
launched on April 16, 2001. This transportation
hub offers rail network links to air and surface
transportations for domestic and international
travels. The rail services include Keretapi Tanah
Melayu (KTM) Inter-City, KTM Commuter by
KTMB, Projek Usahasama Transit Ringan
Automatik (PUTRA LRT) and Express Rail Link’s
(ERL) KLIA Express and KLIA Transit rail
services. A fourth rail service, the KL Monorail
is expected to start operations in 2003.
Incorporated within Stesen Sentral Kuala
Lumpur is also the Kuala Lumpur City Air
Terminal (KL CAT), which has been awarded
the code ‘XKL’ by the International Air Travel
Association (IATA), making it a new
international air travel destination in the world,
equipped with check-in facility.
As a privatization project, the station has
started to play a significant role in supporting
the growing pace of Malaysia’s economic and
social development. Today, about 20,000
people passes through the station on an
average day. An estimated 50 million
passengers are expected to use the station in
2010, doubling to 100 million a year by 2020.
In recognition of its unique quality, Stesen
Sentral Kuala Lumpur has been presented with
a few awards, which include the FIABCI Award
of Distinction for the Best Property in the
Specialised/Public Sector Category and the
Best Steel Roofing Award from Persatuan
Arkitek Malaysia.
Semasa Sentral Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of MRCB, manages and maintains
both commercial and operational aspects of
the station. Other facilities available at the
station include restaurants & cafes, banking
services, travel agencies and retail shops.
Apart from being a transportation hub, Kuala
Lumpur Sentral Development is also conceived
as a vibrant venue for business, residential and
entertaining leisure pursuits. The first phase of
commercial developments consisting Suasana
Sentral Condominiums and Plaza Sentral
Corporate Office Suites were launched
simultaneously with the station. Both have
been successfully completed and currently in
operations and occupied.
Suasana Sentral, a high-end condominium
development, which was jointly developed by
MRCB and CapitaLand Residential of
Singapore, is managed by One Sentral Park
Sdn Bhd. Its unique concept and impressive
features have registered more than 95% sale.
Plaza Sentral is a commercial office
development comprising seven blocks of office
towers. Three blocks have been completed
and have registered take-up rate of 99% and
sales record of 95% with tenants from
established blue chip multinationals and
reputable local organizations.
The first phase of commercial developments
also includes the construction of the 5-star
Hilton Hotel and 4-star Le Meridien Hotel by
Daito and Daisho of Japan, a major property
investor in Kuala Lumpur Sentral Development.
Upon completion by mid-2003, the two hotels
will offer 953 rooms of world-class
accommodation, fine-dining facilities, as well
as meeting and banquet services.
