1 GENERAL INFORMATION
The Company is principally an investment holding company. The Company also engages in
construction related activities and provision of management services to its subsidiaries.
The Group is principally engaged in engineering and construction services, property
development, multimedia and information technology services, publishing, broadcasting and
financial services.
The principal activities of the subsidiaries and associates are described in Note 38 to the
financial statements.
The Company is a public limited liability company, incorporated and domiciled in Malaysia,
and listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

The numbers of persons employed by the Group and by the Company at the end of the
financial year amounted to 763 (2001: 908) and 134 (2001: 278) respectively.
2 BASIS OF PREPARATION OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
The financial statements of the Group and of the Company have been prepared under the
historical cost convention as modified for the revaluation of certain investment properties
and development properties, and unless otherwise indicated in the summary of significant
accounting policies below. The financial statements comply with the applicable approved
accounting standards in Malaysia and the provisions of the Companies Act, 1965.
The preparation of financial statements in conformity with the applicable approved
accounting standards in Malaysia and the provisions of the Companies Act, 1965 require the
Directors to make estimates and assumptions that affect the reported amounts of assets and
liabilities and disclosures of contingent assets and liabilities at the date of the financial
statements and the reported amounts of revenues and expenses during the reported
financial year. Actual results could differ from those estimates.
