dapur bermerk konsentrasi 4%, 6%, dan 8% ternyata memberikan zona hambatan<br />

terhadap Streptococcus mutans masing-masing sebesar 22,17 ± 2,02 mm; 26,33 ±<br />

3,18 mm; dan 24,33 ± 1,52 mm. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa, garam<br />

dapur bermerk konsentrasi 8% dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus<br />

mutans. Perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut secara invivo dan juga mengenai efek<br />

antagonis dari iodium dengan kandungan senyawa garam dapur.<br />

Kata kunci: karies gigi, Streptococcus mutans, garam dapur tanpa merk, garam dapur<br />

bermerk, larutan iodium.<br />

ABSTRACT<br />

IODIZED TABLE SALT INHIBIT THE GROWTH OF<br />

STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS IN VITRO<br />

Caries is a disease similar to other disease, because this disease can disturb<br />

daily activities. This research aims to determine the use of table salt for inhibiting the<br />

growth of Streptococcus mutans.<br />

This is a true experimental with post test only control group design, applying<br />

non and mark table salt.<br />

In this study, it was obtained that unmark table salt with 4%, 6%, and 8%<br />

concentration are not effective to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans. In<br />

addition, mark table salt with 4% and 6% were also not effective against<br />

Streptococcus mutans. However, mark table salt with 8% concentration was found<br />

effective towards Streptococcus mutans. In this study, inhibition of Streptococcus<br />

mutans was also treated by applying iodine solution. With concentration of iodine<br />

similar to mark table salt concentration of 4%, 6%, and 8%. It was obtained that the<br />

iodine solution concentration similar to 4%, 6%, and 8% inhibite the growth of<br />

Streptococcus mutans, indicated by inhibition zone of 22.17 ± 2.02 mm; 26.33 ± 3.18<br />

mm; and 24.33 ± 1.52 mm, respectively.<br />

From this study, it can be concluded that mark table salt with concentration of<br />

8% inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans. Future research needs to be done<br />
