In <strong>the</strong> Tuesday fair of that town, whatever official exacts tolls, firewood,<br />

gra<strong>in</strong> perquisites, gifts, pimp<strong>in</strong>g, ornaments and clo<strong>the</strong>s, or commission on<br />

sales 1) has transgressed <strong>the</strong> order of <strong>the</strong> emperor vira-Narasimha-Devarasa.<br />

Whoever does this will be flogged, degraded and dismissed. If an official, ho<br />

will be dismissed.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e of KaSyapa was born Ramadasa, from whom was born <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Girisa, from him <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Timma. (Omitt<strong>in</strong>g laudations) — His son was k<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Bayya, whose son was k<strong>in</strong>g Krishna, whose son was <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Vonkata His wife<br />

was Padmambika, and <strong>the</strong>ir son was <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Lakshma, who <strong>in</strong> Kasi had a lofty<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g erected for (<strong>the</strong> god) Pasupati, and caused <strong>the</strong> vajapeya and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

sacrifices to be performed. His wife was Chennambika, and Vishnu himself<br />

was born as <strong>the</strong>ir son <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Narasa, or Nrisiihha. For <strong>the</strong> god Janardana<br />

and <strong>the</strong> goddess Lakshmi he had a golden breast-plate made, with conch and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r emblems, crown, garlands of precious stones, armlets, sandals, and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

ornaments. Thousands of Brahmans he made grow fat by his cont<strong>in</strong>ual<br />

distribution of food <strong>in</strong> satras. He daily made gifts of cows, lands, gold, tawny<br />

cows, horses and o<strong>the</strong>r th<strong>in</strong>gs. Decorat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> images of Vishnu and Lakshmi,<br />

he had <strong>the</strong>ir marriage ceremony performed. And build<strong>in</strong>g a splendid pavilion,<br />

he placed <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong> it, set up Sudarsana (Vishnu's discus), and also caused<br />

Brahmans to become sacrificers. He built <strong>the</strong> tank called after his name<br />

Narasambudhi, and excavated <strong>the</strong> Chandra-saras (pond),—thus does k<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Nrisimha triumph. He granted to Brahmans an agrahara, <strong>the</strong> copper sasana<br />

for which is here written.<br />

Be it well. (On <strong>the</strong> date specified")), of <strong>the</strong> Rasyapa-gotra, Bayyappa-<br />

Nayaka's (son) Krishnappa-Nayaka's great-grandson, Venkatadn-Nayaka's<br />

grandson, Lakshmappa-Nayaka's son, boon lord of Man<strong>in</strong>agapura, (with o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

titles as <strong>in</strong> H.-N. 6), Narasimba-Nayakaraiya, to 12 Biahmans (named),<br />

gave <strong>the</strong> copper sasana of a rent-free agrahara as follows:—The villago of<br />

Devarahalli <strong>in</strong> Hebhale-sthala belong<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> Narasimhapura-sime which has<br />

come down to us from of old by royal gift, have we given (all <strong>the</strong> particulars<br />

are repeated here and lower down three times), <strong>in</strong> order that our fa<strong>the</strong>r and<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>r Lakshmappa-Nayaka and Chennajamma, Gangappa-Nayaka, daughter<br />

Kondamma, and all our o<strong>the</strong>r forefa<strong>the</strong>rs may obta<strong>in</strong> permanent admission to<br />

Vaikuntha, and that we, our son, friends, wife and o<strong>the</strong>rs may obta<strong>in</strong> great<br />
