Praise of Sambhu. (On <strong>the</strong> date specified), with various epi<strong>the</strong>ts, worshippers<br />

of <strong>the</strong> lotus feet of <strong>the</strong> god Billeivara, Malleya-savanta and a number of o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

(named) from <strong>the</strong> four nads, unit<strong>in</strong>g, com<strong>in</strong>g to Sivapura <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kabhajli-vitti,<br />

granted <strong>the</strong> dues from fowlers, Holeyas and o<strong>the</strong>r miscellaneous dues to provide<br />

oil for <strong>the</strong> lamp of <strong>the</strong> god Somanatha of that town. Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.<br />

Obeisance to Ganadhipati. Praise of Sarabhu and <strong>the</strong> Boar.<br />

Usual account of <strong>the</strong> rise and genealogy of <strong>the</strong> Hoysalas, to Somesvara.<br />

Of Sala it is said that <strong>the</strong> muni was giv<strong>in</strong>g him <strong>in</strong>struction (vidydhhydsam)<br />

when <strong>the</strong> tiger appeared.<br />

To Sdmeivara-chakri and Bijjala-rani was born Narasimha, known as<br />

sdhityasarwajnam (omniscient <strong>in</strong> literature). As a boy be<strong>in</strong>g steady, on his<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g of age (bayisikeyol) with <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Soma's approval, he assumed <strong>the</strong><br />

splendid crown for <strong>the</strong> protection of <strong>the</strong> Hoysala k<strong>in</strong>gdom. Hav<strong>in</strong>g no fear of<br />

vira-Narasimha's arm, <strong>the</strong> great Sevuna k<strong>in</strong>g Mahadlva-rane com<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

enter<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to battle, be<strong>in</strong>g unable to endure, leav<strong>in</strong>g his cavalry force, and <strong>in</strong><br />

his terror say<strong>in</strong>g "Flight is best" (paldyanam kusalam), fled <strong>in</strong> one night.<br />

Narasimha's far<strong>the</strong>r praise.<br />

A security to k<strong>in</strong>g Narasimha's k<strong>in</strong>gdom (with praises) was <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>ister<br />

Perumale. He was of <strong>the</strong> Atreya-gotra, <strong>the</strong> son of Vishnu-deva and Manchale,<br />

his guru be<strong>in</strong>g Ramakrishna. So that his javanike (curta<strong>in</strong> or tent) was carried<br />

away, <strong>in</strong> sight of both armies he offered up with his sword <strong>the</strong> head of <strong>the</strong> brave<br />

Ratnapala as an offer<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> Lakshrat of victory, and captur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> javanike,<br />

received <strong>the</strong> title of Javanike-Narayana, this general Perumale, <strong>the</strong> powerful<br />

Ravuta-raya.<br />

Be it well. When, (with usual titles, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g) <strong>the</strong> uprooter of <strong>the</strong> Magara<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> establisher of <strong>the</strong> Chola k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> lifter up of <strong>the</strong> Pandya<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> nisSanka-pratapa-chakravartti Hoysala vlra-Narasimha-DSvarasa<br />

was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> royal city Dorasamudra, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong> peace<br />

and wisdom: —<br />

A dweller at his lotus feet, <strong>the</strong> champion over traitors to his lord, Ravutaraya,<br />

Javanike-Narayana, worshipper of <strong>the</strong> lotus feet of Ramakrishna,—<strong>the</strong><br />

great m<strong>in</strong>ister PerumaJe-DSva-dannayaka, (on <strong>the</strong> date specified), —all <strong>the</strong><br />

Brahmans of <strong>the</strong> all-worshipful agrahara Udhhava-ViSvanathapura which is<br />

Balugachchi, be<strong>in</strong>g agreed, bought certa<strong>in</strong> land (specified) accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong><br />

pole of 42 feet, <strong>in</strong> Bajugachchi, and granted it for <strong>the</strong> A<strong>in</strong>dra-parvva (festival)
