The k<strong>in</strong>g hav<strong>in</strong>g given it him with pour<strong>in</strong>g of water, he received Kembala,<br />

and with great festivities made it <strong>the</strong> village of vira-Lakshmi-Narasimba.<br />

And hav<strong>in</strong>g set up (<strong>the</strong> god) vira-Lakshmi-Narasimha, built for it a temple.<br />

And obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g wealth, for <strong>the</strong> learned, dependents, guests, and those of high<br />

caste, he constructed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> agrahara large tanks like <strong>the</strong> seven seas, and<br />

built <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>the</strong> Vishnu temple.<br />

And that Visvanatha-deva's wife Gauri bore to him <strong>the</strong> sons Raya and<br />

Narasimha. And to his fa<strong>the</strong>r's younger bro<strong>the</strong>r Visvanatha-Devanna and his<br />

wife S<strong>in</strong>yavve were born two sons who received <strong>the</strong> tw<strong>in</strong> names Echana and<br />

Rayana. Be<strong>in</strong>g highly pleased with <strong>the</strong>ir good work, <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Nrisimha<br />

favoured <strong>the</strong>m with <strong>the</strong> rank of chief treasury <strong>in</strong>spectors. And when <strong>the</strong><br />

.younger Rayanna obta<strong>in</strong>ed a son Visvanatha, <strong>the</strong> family of <strong>the</strong> srikarana<br />

Visvanatha was <strong>the</strong> most fortunate <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world.<br />

Be it well. When, (with usual titles, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g) uprooter of <strong>the</strong> Magara<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> establisher of <strong>the</strong> Chola k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> nissanka-pratapa-chakravartti<br />

Hoysana vira-Narasimha-deva, <strong>in</strong> march<strong>in</strong>g upon Magara, hav<strong>in</strong>g journeyed to<br />

Chudavadiya-koppa, was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world, and hold<strong>in</strong>g a festival<br />

on addmg to his necklace <strong>the</strong> emerald which came from Munivaraditya,—he<br />

directed <strong>the</strong> dweller at his lotus feet, <strong>the</strong> srikarana Visvanatha-deva, say<strong>in</strong>g<br />

"You make Kembala <strong>in</strong> Nirugunda-nad an agrahara";—whereupon, (on <strong>the</strong><br />

date specified), <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of <strong>the</strong> gods Vajresvara and Narasimha, receiv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

with pour<strong>in</strong>g of water Kembala, with <strong>the</strong> hamlets from old time <strong>in</strong>cluded<br />

<strong>in</strong> its boundaries, and obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a copper sasana fix<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> rent, toge<strong>the</strong>r with<br />

<strong>the</strong> first bali, at 100 gadyana, gave it <strong>the</strong> name of Vira-Narasimha-pura, made<br />

it an agrahara, constructed tanks, and set up <strong>the</strong> god vira-Lakslimi-Narasimha.<br />

For <strong>the</strong> decorations and vessels of that god he gave 2 shares rent free: and for<br />

realis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> fixed rent laid down <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> sasana gave 62 shares to Biahmans<br />

versed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> sastras, toge<strong>the</strong>r with houses, vessels, and ornaments: total<br />

64 shares.<br />

And <strong>the</strong> Biahmans of that agrahara, at <strong>the</strong> consecration of <strong>the</strong> god<br />

Lakshmi-Narasimha, made grants of land (specified) for <strong>the</strong> offer<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />

perpetual lamp. Also <strong>the</strong>y granted <strong>the</strong> dues for marriage, <strong>in</strong>vestiture of <strong>the</strong><br />

sacred thread, and agra-puje, 1 pa; for worship of <strong>the</strong> feet at <strong>the</strong> sale of shares,<br />

1 pa; 1 rent-free loom; 1 oil-mill; and <strong>the</strong> duty on manure pits.<br />

And when <strong>the</strong> Hoysala-chakravartti vira-Soyi-Devarasa was <strong>in</strong> Viradanadakuppa,<br />

protect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> people and rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world:—Dwellers<br />

at his lotus feet, <strong>the</strong> senior <strong>in</strong>spectors of <strong>the</strong> jewel treasury, Ichanna and<br />

Rayanna represent<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>the</strong>re were no means whatever for <strong>the</strong> services of<br />

<strong>the</strong> god Lakshmi-Narasimha of Kembala, that chakravartti Sovi-Devarasa,
