Be it well. When vira-Narasimha-Deva was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong><br />

world: —(on <strong>the</strong> date specified), all <strong>the</strong> Brahmans of <strong>the</strong> immemorial agrahara<br />

Mallikarjjunapura, which is D<strong>in</strong>digur, consider<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>the</strong> former division was<br />

not equal, had <strong>the</strong> wet and dry fields of <strong>the</strong> villages measured by agents, and<br />

agree<strong>in</strong>g among <strong>the</strong>mselves, on <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ciple that all were equal and should<br />

share alike, made <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g permanent settlement of <strong>the</strong> desired shares<br />

(tchchhd-vrtth). Here follow <strong>the</strong> number of shares allotted to each village<br />

(named); altoge<strong>the</strong>r 138 shares. All those who have permanently agreed<br />

to this settlement, if anyth<strong>in</strong>g should befall from <strong>the</strong> act of God or from <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>road of wild tribes, cannot excuse <strong>the</strong>mselves say<strong>in</strong>g it is not equal. In<br />

whatever village any sale or gift takes place, this settlement is not to be<br />

transgressed.<br />

Be it well. (On <strong>the</strong> date specified), when Dodaiya of Kanikaranahalli <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Chennapattana-sime, and Kanthfrava-Narasa-Rajaiya, held <strong>the</strong> havdla of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Chennarayapattna-sime, Nagabhaktaiya set up (<strong>the</strong> god) and built <strong>the</strong><br />

mantapa.<br />

genealogy of <strong>the</strong> Hoysalas, to Ballala.<br />

Be it well. When, (with usual titles and o<strong>the</strong>r epi<strong>the</strong>ts), <strong>the</strong> pratapachakravartti<br />

Iloysala vira-Ballala-De'va, hav<strong>in</strong>g subdued all k<strong>in</strong>gs, was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

royal city (rajadhdni) named Vijayasamudra on <strong>the</strong> bank of <strong>the</strong> Tungabhadra,<br />

protect<strong>in</strong>g his subjects <strong>in</strong> peace:—<br />

His chief m<strong>in</strong>ister was Pandita-dand<strong>in</strong>atha. May Isvara protect him. His<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>r was Uma-devi, his fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala, and Pandita was <strong>the</strong>ir son.<br />

Praises of his valour as a general of <strong>the</strong> army, stat<strong>in</strong>g that with his sword<br />

he chopped off <strong>the</strong> heads of <strong>the</strong> enemies elephants and made a satra for <strong>the</strong><br />

Betalas, while with <strong>the</strong> blood he shed he made as it were a water-shed for <strong>the</strong><br />

Bhutas. May <strong>the</strong> Yadu k<strong>in</strong>g's councillor Pandita-dand<strong>in</strong>atha live as long as<br />

moon and stars. Praise of his liberahty, his five f<strong>in</strong>gers be<strong>in</strong>g like <strong>the</strong> five<br />

trees of plenty, no one was ever equal to him or ever will be.<br />

Thus adorned with so many unparalleled good gualities, Pandita-dand<strong>in</strong>atha,<br />

when, do<strong>in</strong>g obeisance to his lord Ballala-Deva, he begged for <strong>the</strong> village of<br />

D<strong>in</strong>duguru <strong>in</strong> order to form an agrahara, <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g also was favourable to it.
