(On <strong>the</strong> date specified), when Dodaiya, prabhu of Kanakaranahalli <strong>in</strong><br />

Tungam-nful of <strong>the</strong> Chennapattana-sime, was build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> stone-fort of<br />

Chennarayapattana,— Kern pana-gauda of Kasulagore, who held <strong>the</strong> pdrupatya<br />

under him, built this pond and <strong>the</strong> stone matha.<br />

May it be prosperous. Be it well. (On <strong>the</strong> date specified), when <strong>the</strong><br />

champion over those who say <strong>the</strong>y have titles, Kanthirava-Narasaraja-<br />

Vodeyaraiya of Maisur was'rul<strong>in</strong>g a peaceful k<strong>in</strong>gdom: — on his giv<strong>in</strong>g this<br />

Chennarayapattana to Dodaiya, <strong>the</strong> son of Chennavireya-gauda, prabhu of<br />

Kanakaranahalli <strong>in</strong> Tungam-nad of <strong>the</strong> Chonnapattana-sime,—<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> service of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Turuka-raja, he built <strong>the</strong> stone fort, built <strong>the</strong> ? bastion for cannon, built a<br />

temple of three aukanas for Ramesvara, set up a two-headed Basava, and <strong>in</strong><br />

front of it built <strong>the</strong> pond; built <strong>the</strong> western matha with <strong>the</strong> pond, built a<br />

tomple of three ankanas for <strong>the</strong> goddess, and <strong>in</strong> front erected a sw<strong>in</strong>g; <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> tank he erected Gange Basava; <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> even<strong>in</strong>g matha set up <strong>the</strong> imago of<br />

<strong>the</strong> god, and built <strong>the</strong> pond; <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> tiger-face chavadi set up images of his<br />

family-gods KarttavireSvara, Bhadrakalamma and Achalesvara. Great good<br />

fortune.<br />

Praise of Sambhu. The stream of <strong>the</strong> holy Ganga fall<strong>in</strong>g from his matted<br />

top-knot, his broad chest bent to enjoy <strong>the</strong> contact of <strong>the</strong> breasts of <strong>the</strong><br />

Mounta<strong>in</strong>-daughtor, isa, <strong>the</strong> mooo-crested, whose fame fills <strong>the</strong> whole earth,<br />

may he now be favouiable to Machi-Raja and grant prosperity to Santala-Devi<br />

as long as sun, moon and stars endure.<br />

Royal descent (rdjdnvaya). Usual gonealogy of <strong>the</strong> Hoysalas, to Ballala.<br />

Of <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gs who had previously taken <strong>the</strong> renowned fort of Uchchangi, who<br />

captured it like <strong>the</strong> unassisted hero, <strong>the</strong> Sanivara-siddhi, Giridurggamalla,<br />

Ballala?<br />

Be it well. When, (with usual titles, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g) a wild-fire to <strong>the</strong> forest<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Chakrakuta fort, a thunderbolt to <strong>the</strong> rock <strong>the</strong> skull of Kajapala,<br />

pumsher of <strong>the</strong> pride of <strong>the</strong> mighty fierce Pandya champion,— with <strong>the</strong>se and<br />

many o<strong>the</strong>r titles, <strong>the</strong> pratapa-Hoysala vira-Ballala-Deva was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> residence<br />

of <strong>the</strong> royal city Dorasamudra, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom: —
