Praise of Sambhu. When, (with usual Chalukya titles), Tnbhuvanamalla-<br />

Deva was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom —<br />

The sun to <strong>the</strong> Yadu-kula, Ereyanga-Deva's son, was <strong>the</strong> warlike k<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Vishnu; whoso son was Narasirhha<br />

Be it well. When, (with usual Hoy sal a titles), Vishnuvarddhana Jagadekamalla<br />

Narasimha-Hoysala-Deva was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom:—A sun rejoic<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> groups of lotus <strong>the</strong> Chalukya l<strong>in</strong>e, (with various epi<strong>the</strong>ts) was Muddarasa,<br />

who received <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world <strong>the</strong> name of Ji; (his praises, say<strong>in</strong>g) he was born<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chalukya-vamsa. He had two sons, Bacharasa and Nagarasa. Of <strong>the</strong>se,<br />

Nagarasa, though <strong>the</strong> junior <strong>in</strong> age, was <strong>the</strong> senior <strong>in</strong> all good qualities, and<br />

without th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g it chi (or shame) was regarded as Ji throughout <strong>the</strong> seaengirdled<br />

earth. To him was born Ilullarasa, a Chalukya head-jewel.<br />

This Hullarasa, hav<strong>in</strong>g repaired <strong>the</strong> temple which his fa<strong>the</strong>rs (ayyandir)<br />

Bachaiasa and Nagarasa had erected, ? with his three (fore)fa<strong>the</strong>rs (on <strong>the</strong><br />

date specified) made to Marantsi-pandita a grant of land (specified) for <strong>the</strong><br />

gods Somesvara and Muddosvara of <strong>the</strong> two Siva temples Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verse.<br />

Hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> supreme profound syad-vada as a fruit-bear<strong>in</strong>g token, may it<br />

prevail, <strong>the</strong> doctr<strong>in</strong>e of <strong>the</strong> lord of <strong>the</strong> three worlds, <strong>the</strong> J<strong>in</strong>a doctr<strong>in</strong>e. Praise<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Tloysalas, <strong>the</strong>ir genealogy as usual to Ballala. Of him it is said that —<br />

Lala lost his gaiety (lila)y Gurjjara was seized with a severe fever through<br />

great feai, Gaula was racked with pa<strong>in</strong>; Pallava reta<strong>in</strong>ed only a little of his<br />

wealth, Chola threw away even his clo<strong>the</strong>s;—when <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> face of <strong>the</strong> battle<br />

<strong>the</strong> drum beat of <strong>the</strong> matchless arm, a fire of <strong>the</strong> last day to <strong>the</strong> ocean<br />

powerful hostile k<strong>in</strong>gs, of vira-Ballala-Deva.<br />

Bo it well. When, (with usual and o<strong>the</strong>r titles, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g) a submar<strong>in</strong>e fire<br />

to <strong>the</strong> ocean <strong>the</strong> Tuluva army, a wild fire to <strong>the</strong> hill-fort his claimants, a<br />

thunderbolt to <strong>the</strong> mounta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pandya-kula, plunderer of <strong>the</strong> Chola camp
