Somesvara-Devarasa was <strong>in</strong> Kamianur, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world*—(on<br />

<strong>the</strong> date specified), Narasimba-nayaka, son of Namayya-nayaka of Gandasi, who<br />

went with a message aga<strong>in</strong>st Niagara, fought <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> battle of .ttodu-mangala<br />

and atta<strong>in</strong>ed to <strong>the</strong> world of Brahma.<br />

paramesvara vira-piatapa vira-Achyuta-Raya-maharaya was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world.—Timmarasa's son Raraappa gave to Brahmans of many<br />

gotras, sutras and sakhas a grant of land on a stone sasana as follows. — In<br />

<strong>the</strong> Honnavali-sime which Achyuta-Raya-mahaiaya favourod to us for <strong>the</strong> office<br />

of nayak, Chikka-Gandasi, o<strong>the</strong>rwise named . samudra,—<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of <strong>the</strong> gods Virupaksha an<br />

that merit may accrue to Achyuta-Raya-mabdiaya and that our Kadigalala<br />

Sarasi-amma may atta<strong>in</strong> to <strong>the</strong> world of merit, — divid<strong>in</strong>g it <strong>in</strong>to numbers,we<br />

have given to <strong>the</strong> Brahmans. (Hero follow <strong>the</strong> boundaries.) The grant is<br />

repeated three times, and given with <strong>the</strong> usual details Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.<br />

Usual account of <strong>the</strong> Hoysalas West, <strong>the</strong> Western Ocean; east, <strong>the</strong><br />

famous Kanchi-pura; south, <strong>the</strong> cha<strong>in</strong>s of Sandal-wood mounta<strong>in</strong>s, with gentle<br />

sandal-scented breezes, north, <strong>the</strong> Perddore; <strong>the</strong> lands with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>se boundaries<br />

did Vishnu rule by his valour. To Vishnu varddhana and Lakshma-Devi was<br />

born Narasimha He simply astonished <strong>the</strong> world, for when <strong>the</strong> Kadamba<br />

army was <strong>in</strong> Bankapura prepar<strong>in</strong>g to make an attack, hear<strong>in</strong>g of it, filled<br />

with a proud spirit, he destroyed that force, brought all <strong>the</strong> best of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

spoils and gave <strong>the</strong>m to his fa<strong>the</strong>r Like Dharmma, Bhlma, Arjjuna, Yama,<br />

Rama, Bharata and Satrughna he was equal to <strong>the</strong> ancient heioes of <strong>the</strong><br />

Bhdtata and Rdmdyana. He was, as if Nala, Nabhaga, Ambansha, Prithu,<br />

Hanschandra, Chandragupta, Rama, Arjjuna, Puru, Sagara, Dushshanta, all<br />

<strong>the</strong> famous k<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world, were comb<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong>to one and bom <strong>in</strong> this Kali<br />

age as <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Narasimha. His fai<strong>the</strong>r praise<br />

Be it well When, (with usual titles, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g) a submar<strong>in</strong>e fire to <strong>the</strong><br />

ocean <strong>the</strong> Tuluva forces, an elephant to <strong>the</strong> lotus garden <strong>the</strong> Pandya-kula,—<br />

with <strong>the</strong>se and all o<strong>the</strong>r titles, (and <strong>the</strong> conquests of Vishnuvarddhana),<br />

Hoysala Narasimha-Deva, protect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> world from Hima to Setu, was rul<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom.—
