<strong>in</strong>comparable good qualities. Fortunate, beautiful, worthy, ready for enjoyment,<br />

dist<strong>in</strong>guished, dignified, <strong>in</strong>telligent, devoted to her hushand, was <strong>the</strong> mahdsati Gujjala-Dev<br />

of <strong>the</strong> compass, as long as <strong>the</strong> sky is spread, as long as <strong>the</strong> earth sun and<br />

moon endure, may <strong>the</strong> fame bo established of Gujjala-Devi<br />

A dweller at her lotus feet —Be it well. The fiist chief of <strong>the</strong> village,<br />

possessed of rul<strong>in</strong>g power, was figa-gavunda; to whom and to HeRabhe was<br />

born heggade-Madi. His wives were Makayve and Bammayve. Bammajve's<br />

eldest daughter was Halayve, whose hushand was heggade-Mfuliyanna.<br />

Be it well. To Abhadi-Gavunda of Kangunda <strong>in</strong> Nirugunda-nad and to<br />

Bicha-gavundi was born Dasa-gavunda. To him and to Chanda-gavundi was<br />

born Mahadeva-gavunda.<br />

Be it well. (On <strong>the</strong> date specified), <strong>the</strong> heggade of Kangunda, Madigavunda,<br />

cansed a temple to be made, toge<strong>the</strong>r with his son-<strong>in</strong>-law Bachiyana<br />

and his son Macheya; and while he was hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> temple built Devarasi-pandita<br />

was attend<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> white-wash<strong>in</strong>g. And at <strong>the</strong> time of <strong>the</strong> moon's eclipse<br />

<strong>in</strong> Karttika of that year, <strong>the</strong> farmers and all <strong>the</strong> subjects, for <strong>the</strong> god Madesvata<br />

<strong>in</strong> front of <strong>the</strong> town, for offer<strong>in</strong>gs, perpetual lamp, and temple repaus, wash<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> feet of Ittage-jiya's son-<strong>in</strong>-law Baya-jiya's bro<strong>the</strong>r-<strong>in</strong>-law Devaiasi-pandita,<br />

made grants of land (specified). Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses<br />

Praise of Sambhu. Be it well.. When, (with usual titles), Vishnuvarddhana-<br />

Deva, hav<strong>in</strong>g on that side Bankapura and on this side Talavanapura as his<br />

royal cities, was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong> peaco and wisdom:—<br />

A dweller at his lotus feet, and officer over all, considered as a great<br />

m<strong>in</strong>ister, was heggade-Chavundamayya; (his praises) His wife was Jakkanayve.<br />

To <strong>the</strong>m were born Madhavachandra, J<strong>in</strong>adeva, Tailapa, Rechi, Parsva and<br />

Rakkasa (A verse of praise for each). Parsva built a chaitydlaya <strong>in</strong> Nittui<br />

Among <strong>the</strong>m J<strong>in</strong>adeva was dist<strong>in</strong>guished for his learn<strong>in</strong>g. His wife was<br />

Haneyakayve, and <strong>the</strong>ir son was Chavunda-Raya; (his praise). His wife was<br />

Dekanayve, and <strong>the</strong>ir son was <strong>the</strong> treasurer PArisayya-, (his praise).<br />

Be it well. (On <strong>the</strong> date specified), <strong>the</strong> Mulasthana temple of Kangunda<br />

<strong>in</strong> Nirugunda-nad was built by Magudayve's son Anantasakti-pandita and his<br />

son Brahmarasi-pandita. When Vishnuvarddhana-Deva was mak<strong>in</strong>g great gifts<br />

at <strong>the</strong> tula-purusha, <strong>the</strong> treasurer Chavundamayya worshipp<strong>in</strong>g his feet, obta<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

Karigunda as his own land, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of Dasa-gauda of that village,<br />

<strong>the</strong> fifty families and o<strong>the</strong>rs, made for <strong>the</strong> god a grant of land (specified), at<br />
