Praise of Sambhu. The lord of <strong>the</strong> three worlds, his auspicious head<br />

crowned with jewels, <strong>the</strong> beloved of Mridani,— Mahesa Malhkarjjuna do I adore.<br />

An ocean of nectar to <strong>the</strong> meritorious stream <strong>the</strong> amorous beauty of Lakshmi,<br />

<strong>the</strong> subjoctof moditation to Sanakaand o<strong>the</strong>t munis, — Madhusudana do 1 adore.<br />

Usual account of <strong>the</strong> orig<strong>in</strong> of <strong>the</strong> Yadava race from Yadu, and genealogy<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Hoysala k<strong>in</strong>gs, down to Ballala.<br />

Be it well. When, (with usual Hoysala and Chalukya titles), <strong>the</strong> strongarmed<br />

chakravaitti Hoysala vira-Ballala-Dovarasa, protect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> whole world<br />

under his sole umbrella, was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> residence of Baguli, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom<br />

of <strong>the</strong> earth —<br />

A dweller at his lotus feet, (with various epi<strong>the</strong>ts), was <strong>the</strong> droha-ghmatta<br />

(a millstone to traitors), Macha-chamupa. That dandanatha's younger bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

was Madhusudana-dandanatha, whose descent was as follows —A moon to <strong>the</strong><br />

pure qcoan <strong>the</strong> Bhiiiadvaja-kula was Madhuha, son of <strong>the</strong> Brahman jewel Dasiraja<br />

To <strong>the</strong> lord Madhusudana and to Jakkala-Devi was born Ddsiraja, (his praise).<br />

To him and his wife Nalale was born Madhusudana, <strong>the</strong> ornament of chamupatis.<br />

The treasury be<strong>in</strong>g filled with wealth; <strong>the</strong> city with elephants, horses, women<br />

and jewels, <strong>the</strong> agrahara aud pura with learned Brahmans, all <strong>the</strong> land with<br />

wealth of cows, <strong>in</strong>crease of gra<strong>in</strong>, and crowds of population;—<strong>the</strong> body of <strong>the</strong><br />

fortune of Ballala's kiugdom throve, so that Madhuha-chamCipa obta<strong>in</strong>ed great<br />

iame, Devoted to <strong>the</strong> worship of <strong>the</strong> lotus feet of Siva; satisfy<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> desires<br />

of <strong>the</strong> learned; rejoic<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> bestowal of lands, cows, houses, food, gold,<br />

vng<strong>in</strong>s and many o<strong>the</strong>r k<strong>in</strong>ds of gifts, gratify<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> wants of all supplicants,—<br />

this earth was as <strong>in</strong> a cont<strong>in</strong>ual festival through <strong>the</strong> great dandesa Madhuha.<br />

His younger bro<strong>the</strong>r was !svaia-deva; (his praise): and his younger bio<strong>the</strong>r<br />

was Madhava, (his piaise).<br />

For <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>crease of all merit <strong>in</strong> his ruler's k<strong>in</strong>gdom, Madhuha created <strong>the</strong><br />

agiahara of Madhusudanapura, a great glory to his family. Praise of its<br />

Biahmans With clusters of groves, with well filled channels, with large<br />

tanks like seas, surrounded with grow<strong>in</strong>g crops, with crowds of people, and<br />

with splendid temples, — <strong>the</strong> beauty of this pura was such as to open <strong>the</strong> eyes.<br />

In it, with <strong>the</strong> approval of <strong>the</strong> geneial Muchiraja, Madhusudana-dandanayaka<br />

erected a temple, lofty and glitter<strong>in</strong>g like Dhanada's mounta<strong>in</strong>, for Malhkarjjuna,<br />

Madhusudana and <strong>the</strong> Sun.<br />

Be it well. The great m<strong>in</strong>ister, ruler of seventy-two officials, <strong>the</strong> dandanayaka<br />

Machirajayya, for <strong>the</strong> daily offer<strong>in</strong>gs of <strong>the</strong> gods Malhkarjjuna and<br />

Madhusudana of <strong>the</strong> three p<strong>in</strong>nacled temple which his younger bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Madhusudana-dandanayaka had erected <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> agiahara of Madhusudanapura
