Chola and Pandya rulers, he at once supplied, and obta<strong>in</strong>ed extensive merit,<br />

so that no Setti was equal to Kunjanambi throughout <strong>the</strong> Iloyaaja k<strong>in</strong>gdom.<br />

An emperor of justice, honoured <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> great Hoysaja k<strong>in</strong>gdom, of k<strong>in</strong>d speech,<br />

a tree of plenty <strong>in</strong> natural wisdom, dolight<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> truth, thus did all <strong>the</strong><br />

world unceas<strong>in</strong>gly extol Kunjanambi-Setti as a collection of unnumbered good<br />

qualities,<br />

His son-<strong>in</strong>-law, from his mak<strong>in</strong>g donations from a cart-load (bhandi) of<br />

money, was named Bhand<strong>in</strong>ambi Fur<strong>the</strong>r praise, say<strong>in</strong>g no one was equal<br />

to Bhand<strong>in</strong>ambi-Setti. To Kakara Manavala and to Soviyakka was born<br />

Kandanambi. He became Bhand<strong>in</strong>ambi's son-<strong>in</strong>-law, and was known for his<br />

virtues and devotion to his lord's bus<strong>in</strong>ess throughout <strong>the</strong> brave Hoysala k<strong>in</strong>g's<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom. And <strong>the</strong> former members of his family had ga<strong>in</strong>ed great honour<br />

by <strong>the</strong>ir works of merit and good deeds. His wife (with praises) was<br />

Chandiyaka. To <strong>the</strong>m was born a son Kufija, who was devoted to <strong>the</strong> service<br />

and worship of llaia Giv<strong>in</strong>g his body to <strong>the</strong> Jangama, and his m<strong>in</strong>d to <strong>the</strong><br />

lotus feet of Somanatha, he by his merit atta<strong>in</strong>ed to <strong>the</strong> abode of Siva (i e.<br />

died). Thus ho went to see <strong>the</strong> world of gods<br />

On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hoysala country which was daily <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

prosperity, a place of great good fortune was Muttana Hosavuru There<br />

hunger was unknown to <strong>the</strong> people, so abundant were <strong>the</strong> crops, <strong>the</strong> bees<br />

knew not hunger, such were <strong>the</strong> flowers; <strong>the</strong> birds knew no hunger, on account<br />

of <strong>the</strong> woods, — such a favourable residence was Muttana Hosavuru, Its moat<br />

was as deep as <strong>the</strong> Serpent k<strong>in</strong>g's city, and its golden fort walls rose higher<br />

than <strong>the</strong> clouds, — what can I say of its glory? Equal to Indra's town, or to<br />

Dhanada's city, or to Vishnu's town, was Muttana Hosavuru with l<strong>in</strong>es of lofty<br />

houses and many different temples.<br />

On account of <strong>the</strong> death of his son, hav<strong>in</strong>g carried out works here and<br />

<strong>the</strong>re, Kandanambi erected a Sivalaya <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> name of Kunja such that it had<br />

no equal <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world. Its pratses.<br />

For <strong>the</strong> offer<strong>in</strong>gs, decoratious, worship, for two Chaitra purifications, for<br />

daily distrubution of food, and for temple repairs of this abode of Siva, ho<br />

made grants, to cont<strong>in</strong>ue as long as sun moon and sky. (Here follow long<br />

details of <strong>the</strong> lands given), measured by <strong>the</strong> pole of five fathoms and one arm.<br />

And all <strong>the</strong> Brahmans of <strong>the</strong> Damodara agrahara, which is Nagarahalh,<br />

made a grant (specified). All <strong>the</strong>se lands, that Kandanambi-Setti made over<br />

(on <strong>the</strong> date specified) with pour<strong>in</strong>g of water on <strong>the</strong> holy feet of <strong>the</strong> god<br />

Kunjesvara.<br />

And his daughter <strong>the</strong> Gana-kumari" Chandawe he made <strong>the</strong> proprietress<br />

(odeyalu) of <strong>the</strong> temple, for carry<strong>in</strong>g out <strong>the</strong> ceremonies, and granted her<br />

hombali land, with pour<strong>in</strong>g of water <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> prosence of <strong>the</strong> god Kunjesvara,<br />

l) Gana-humdrt,—daughter or pr<strong>in</strong>cess of <strong>the</strong> ganas, <strong>the</strong> boats or followers of Siva, Jangaraas
