for <strong>the</strong> offer<strong>in</strong>gs of <strong>the</strong> god Brahma of <strong>the</strong> old tank, for <strong>the</strong> perpetual lamp<br />

No. 88 above) be<strong>in</strong>g present, (on <strong>the</strong> date specified), . . . , for <strong>the</strong> decorations<br />

and illum<strong>in</strong>ations of <strong>the</strong> god Jagatesvara, for <strong>the</strong> offer<strong>in</strong>gs, perpetual<br />

lamp, temple repairs, and gifts of food to <strong>the</strong> matha-pati and ascetics, — wash<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> feet of ?Nagasiva-pandita, disciple of Padumasiva-pandita, disciple of<br />

Araitasiva-pandita, acharyya of <strong>the</strong> . . nanesvara temple, . . upholder of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Lakulagama-saraaya,— made a grant of land (specified) Usual f<strong>in</strong>al<br />

Praise of Nagasiva-munipa for em<strong>in</strong>ence <strong>in</strong> agama, <strong>in</strong> Siva-tatva, <strong>in</strong> a life<br />

Be it well. When, (with usual titles, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g) a submar<strong>in</strong>e fire to <strong>the</strong><br />

ocean <strong>the</strong> Tuluva army, an elephant to <strong>the</strong> lotus garden <strong>the</strong> Pandya-kula,—<br />

Hoysala vira-Ballala-Deva was protect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> whole woild, putt<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>the</strong><br />

evil and uphold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> good, and was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> residence of Dorasamudia, rul<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom: —<br />

A dweller at his lotus feet, was <strong>the</strong> royal <strong>in</strong>spector hoggade Kesava-Devayya,<br />

whose greatness and that of Arasiyakere were as follows- — Kesava-Deva is<br />

said to be <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> famous Uma,-Devi 1) . With groups of Brahmans like<br />

Parameshti, with crowds of Sudras like <strong>the</strong> earth, with. . like <strong>the</strong> K<strong>in</strong>nara<br />

beauties, with <strong>the</strong> Koyilalgal like Aja, with tanks like seas, with groves like<br />

<strong>the</strong> groves of Amarapura, — did Arasiyakere sh<strong>in</strong>e The radiance of <strong>the</strong> n<strong>in</strong>e<br />

gems was reflected <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> sky like a ra<strong>in</strong>bow, and golden ram fell <strong>in</strong> Arasiyakere,<br />

As if say<strong>in</strong>g *be calm' was heard <strong>the</strong> quarrell<strong>in</strong>g lovers' chatter of parrots<br />
