with flowers, sugar-cane and wells hav<strong>in</strong>g lofty and handsome temples, crowded<br />

with an <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g population, an ornament to <strong>the</strong> earth, — who can describe<br />

Arasiyakere? The J<strong>in</strong>a dharmma and all o<strong>the</strong>r dharmmas are cultivated<br />

without opposition by <strong>the</strong> thousand families of <strong>the</strong> good <strong>in</strong> Arasiyakere The<br />

bhavyas (i.e. <strong>the</strong> Ja<strong>in</strong>s) who aided those thousand families were as follows: —<br />

Their speech, a home of truth; <strong>the</strong>ir conduct, accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> J<strong>in</strong>a dharmma;<br />

<strong>in</strong> worship of <strong>the</strong> two feet of J<strong>in</strong>a, fourfold of Indra; <strong>the</strong>ir greatness, equal<br />

to that of Kubera, <strong>the</strong>ir gifts, bestowed only on <strong>the</strong> worthy; <strong>in</strong> acquir<strong>in</strong>g<br />

wealth, giv<strong>in</strong>g pleasure to all; on whatever side observed this was <strong>the</strong> case,—<br />

who <strong>the</strong>n can compare with <strong>the</strong> bhavyas of Arasiyakere?<br />

The sh<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Sahasrakuta J<strong>in</strong>a image be<strong>in</strong>g set up by <strong>the</strong> great Recha, <strong>the</strong><br />

company of bhavyas contributed a koti (of monoy), and erected for it a temple<br />

and an enclosure wall <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> celebiated Arasiyakere, giv<strong>in</strong>g accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

houses; and <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g granted land rated at 10 nishka. This work be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed by el koti (7 crores) of people throughout <strong>the</strong> world, <strong>the</strong> temple<br />

was called <strong>the</strong> Elkoti J<strong>in</strong>alaya<br />

Be it well. With all titles, <strong>the</strong> bhavyas of Arasiyakere 1) <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn<br />

Ayyavale, built <strong>the</strong> Sahasrakiita-ohaityalaya; and for <strong>the</strong> eight k<strong>in</strong>d of<br />

ceremonies for that god, <strong>the</strong> livelihood of <strong>the</strong> pujari and servants, for gifts of<br />

food to those of <strong>the</strong> four castes who may come, and repairs of <strong>the</strong> temple,<br />

purchas<strong>in</strong>g land from <strong>the</strong> 1000 families, and obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g from <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala <strong>the</strong><br />

remission of <strong>the</strong> tax of 10 honnu on that land, entered it <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> accountant's<br />

book, made it over to <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e of Sagaranandi-siddhanta-deva of <strong>the</strong> Ingalesvarabali,<br />

(on <strong>the</strong> date specified). Details of <strong>the</strong> land.<br />

And <strong>the</strong> bhavyas of Arasiyakere hav<strong>in</strong>g set up <strong>the</strong> world-praised Sant<strong>in</strong>atha,<br />

erected his temple so as to ga<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> applause of <strong>the</strong> world. And to provide<br />

for <strong>the</strong> worship of that image from <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>terest, <strong>the</strong> pattana-svami Kalla....<br />

granted a shop, and o<strong>the</strong>rs (named) gave funds (specified). Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.<br />

(On <strong>the</strong> date specified), <strong>the</strong> Kumari (or pr<strong>in</strong>cess) Sovala-Devi's heggade Dattayya's<br />

younger bro<strong>the</strong>r S<strong>in</strong>gayya, with <strong>the</strong> Brahmans, all <strong>the</strong> thousand families<br />

and <strong>the</strong> townspeople, made a grant of land (specified) for <strong>the</strong> Sahasrakoti.<br />
