When, (with usual titles), <strong>the</strong> pratapa-chakravartti Hoysala vira-Ballala-<br />

Deva, putt<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>the</strong> evil and uphold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> good <strong>in</strong> all <strong>the</strong> world, was <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> residence of Dorasamudra, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace: —<br />

Dwellers at his lotus feet were <strong>the</strong> Ja<strong>in</strong> townsmen of Arasiyakere; hear<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of whose steadfastness <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> essence of <strong>the</strong> three jewels and ability to<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> dharmma, Recharasa, <strong>the</strong> em<strong>in</strong>ent councillor of <strong>the</strong> Kalachuryyakula,<br />

tak<strong>in</strong>g refuge at <strong>the</strong> lotus feet of that Ballala, set up <strong>in</strong> Arasiyakere<br />

<strong>the</strong> image of Sahasra-kuta J<strong>in</strong>a,— and for <strong>the</strong> eight k<strong>in</strong>d of ceremonies for<br />

that god, for <strong>the</strong> livelihood of <strong>the</strong> pujari and servants, and repairs of <strong>the</strong><br />

temple, — obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Handarahaju-from <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala, — made it over to <strong>the</strong><br />

guru of his l<strong>in</strong>e, — of <strong>the</strong> sri-Mula-sarigha, Desi-gana, Pustaka-gachcha and<br />

Ingulesvara-bah, Maghanandi-siddhanta-dova's disciple Subhachandra-traividyadeva's<br />

disciple, — Sagaranandi-siddhanta-deva.<br />

To describe <strong>the</strong> greatness of Recharasa who (thus) protected <strong>the</strong> Ja<strong>in</strong> townspeople,<br />

and -of Arasiyakere: — praise of Recha-chamupa, who acquired <strong>the</strong><br />

name of <strong>the</strong> sole friend of <strong>the</strong> world. To those who properly observe, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

celebrated Arasiyakere <strong>the</strong> Brahmans were versed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> vedas, <strong>the</strong> guards<br />

brave, <strong>the</strong> traders wealthy, <strong>the</strong> fourth caste of unshaken speech, <strong>the</strong> women<br />

beautiful, <strong>the</strong> labourers submissive, <strong>the</strong> temples ornaments to <strong>the</strong> world, <strong>the</strong><br />

tanks deep and wide, <strong>the</strong> woods full of fruit, <strong>the</strong> gardens full of flowers.<br />

With lotuses covered with bees, with groves filled with parrots and cuckoos,<br />

with tanks overflow<strong>in</strong>g, pervaded with <strong>the</strong> perfume of gandhasdh rice, filled
