to Bagiyakka were born, chiefs of <strong>the</strong> treasury enclosure, Revana, Naga-deva,<br />

and Kesavaryya. Praise of Revatia. Macha-bhatta his fa<strong>the</strong>r, Maravve his<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>r, his younger bro<strong>the</strong>rs Ballayya and Madhava, k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala his tuler,<br />

<strong>the</strong> god of gods Kalideva his deity, — was he an ord<strong>in</strong>ary man, Ketamalla?<br />

Who can describe <strong>the</strong> greatness of Ketamalla, to whom k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala gave <strong>the</strong><br />

rank of chief of <strong>the</strong> treasury enclosure. Praise of Mara, who was an officer<br />

of <strong>the</strong> royal city, <strong>the</strong> treasury enclosure, Arasiyakere. Praise of Kesriaja<br />

The k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala be<strong>in</strong>g pleased with <strong>the</strong> lord Kesava, gave him <strong>the</strong> office of<br />

sri-karana (or accountant) <strong>in</strong> such a wealthy treasury town Praises of <strong>the</strong><br />

Kesava temple and of <strong>the</strong> Brahmans who consecrated it<br />

Be it well. (On <strong>the</strong> date specified — 22nd July 1173) 1 ', at <strong>the</strong> auspicious<br />

moment of <strong>the</strong> maha-mandalesvara Hoysala vira-Ballala-Deva's coronation<br />

festival, — for <strong>the</strong> decorations and daily service of <strong>the</strong> god Chonna-Kosava of<br />

Jayamgonda-Ballalapura, <strong>the</strong> royal city, <strong>the</strong> treasury enclosure, Arasiyakere,<br />

for <strong>the</strong> perpetual lamp, temple repairs, <strong>the</strong> livelihood of <strong>the</strong> pujari and servants,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Chaitra purification festival, — <strong>the</strong> great m<strong>in</strong>ister,— <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of<br />

<strong>the</strong> royal <strong>in</strong>spector-heggades,— wash<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> feet of —characterised by <strong>the</strong><br />

usual ascetic virtues (named), potent to curse or bless,—all <strong>the</strong> Brahmans of<br />

Arasiyakere, — made a grant of lands (specified) Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.<br />

And <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> Yadavas, Ballala <strong>the</strong> donor of wealth, gave to <strong>the</strong><br />

Brahmans land <strong>in</strong> Arasiyakere valued at 15 pon as pmddrddna.<br />

Born <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world-renowned Vaji-vamsa, <strong>the</strong> lord Somanatha's son, <strong>the</strong> kaiuraja'Devappfiryya,<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Kasyapa-gotra, composed (jpeldam) this sasana. Filled<br />

with samavntta verses (a metre <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> four l<strong>in</strong>es of <strong>the</strong> verse conta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same number of feet), p<br />

pleasant soft l<strong>in</strong>es, — (this is) <strong>the</strong> celebrated Basavaraja's engrav<strong>in</strong>g (barapani)<br />

Ballalapura, which is Arasiyakere, — Devarasa's son Hampeya-iaya and o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

(named) made a grant of rice-land, toge<strong>the</strong>r with two lamps, to <strong>the</strong> Brahmans<br />

of Arasiyakere.<br />
