that place, Jagata-Jiya and o<strong>the</strong>rs (named) — <strong>the</strong>se five, agree<strong>in</strong>g among <strong>the</strong>mselves,<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of <strong>the</strong> great senior merchant Ponnachcha-Setti and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs (named), gave a vole (or writ<strong>in</strong>g) as follows: — A dispute hav<strong>in</strong>g arisen<br />

as to some gam or loss <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> land of <strong>the</strong> god Kamatesvaia,— <strong>the</strong> people of<br />

<strong>the</strong> place, Ponnachcha-Setti, <strong>the</strong> Jiyas, Gavudas and Chavu-gdveyas hav<strong>in</strong>g<br />

assembled, <strong>in</strong>spected <strong>the</strong> place, saw that from <strong>the</strong> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g it was no part of<br />

<strong>the</strong> god's endowment, and said to those priests - "It is not right for you to<br />

dispute about this." On which <strong>the</strong> priests agree<strong>in</strong>g, said — "We will make<br />

no dispute. From this day forth <strong>the</strong> land of all <strong>the</strong> temples which we have<br />

been enjoy<strong>in</strong>g is ours; <strong>the</strong> land which <strong>the</strong> Brahmans have been enjoy<strong>in</strong>g s<strong>in</strong>ce<br />

<strong>the</strong> agrahara was established is <strong>the</strong>irs. When <strong>the</strong> land was distributed to us<br />

and to <strong>the</strong> Brahmans <strong>the</strong>re was no watchman for Halli Hiriydr." Such was<br />

<strong>the</strong> vole given to <strong>the</strong> Brahmans by <strong>the</strong> priests. Written, with <strong>the</strong> approval of<br />

When, (with usual titles), <strong>the</strong> disperser of <strong>the</strong> Magara k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> setter<br />

up of <strong>the</strong> Chola k<strong>in</strong>gdom, — Hoysana vira-Narasiriiha-Deva was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> residence<br />

of Dorasamudra, lul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom: —<br />

A dweller at his lotus feet, Mavantayya-dannayaka and <strong>the</strong> jagati-kottalis,<br />

worshippeis of <strong>the</strong> feet of <strong>the</strong> 120 Brahmans of Kahkatti Vijaya-Narasimhapura,<br />

contributed a fund as follows for <strong>the</strong> perpetual lamp and services of<br />

<strong>the</strong> god Jagatesvara, (on <strong>the</strong> date specified). (Hero follows a list of donors<br />

and <strong>the</strong>ir gifts.)<br />

6m. Obeisance to Siva. (On <strong>the</strong> date apeeified), <strong>the</strong> Brahmans (as <strong>in</strong> No. 49<br />

above) gave to <strong>the</strong> priests (<strong>the</strong>re named) a vole as follows: — Of <strong>the</strong> 5 gadyana<br />

which is paid every year to <strong>the</strong> temples of Halli Hiriyur, <strong>the</strong> chief place of<br />

Kahkatti, <strong>the</strong>y will deduct 5 hana and have <strong>the</strong> iron rod (of <strong>the</strong> sluice) let<br />

down for <strong>the</strong> stream of water, and let it on to <strong>the</strong> rent-free ground of <strong>the</strong><br />

Jagatesvara temple, and <strong>the</strong> rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g 4 gadyana 5 hana <strong>the</strong> priests will pay<br />

every year to <strong>the</strong> Brahmans. If any extra tax arises from <strong>the</strong> palace, it will<br />

be met accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> custom of <strong>the</strong> country. Written by Gopayya.<br />
