Jayagondapura, of <strong>the</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g of its Brahmans, and of Nagadeva, Handeva<br />

and Balluga. Here follow a great number of names of donors and what<br />

<strong>the</strong>y gave, to provide for <strong>the</strong> perpetual lamp of <strong>the</strong> god Siridhara.<br />

Then come particulars of a division of land made by Hiriyabetta-Jiya<br />

Praise of Sarabhu. Usual account of <strong>the</strong> Hoysala descent<br />

When (with usual and o<strong>the</strong>r titles) Hoysala vira-Ballala-Deva was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

residence of Dorasamudra, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom: —<br />

Dwellers at his lotus feet, were Mahadevarasa and <strong>the</strong> forty great men (or<br />

body-guard) of Kalu-Malleya; to describe whose greatness- — (<strong>the</strong>ir praises).<br />

Praise of <strong>the</strong> beauty of Kuruvakka. Its gauda was Ereyamma-Gaunda. Also<br />

Muddarasa received from <strong>the</strong> people of Kuruvakka a gaundike Like a fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />

and mo<strong>the</strong>r to all <strong>the</strong>se people was <strong>the</strong> senabova Bittiyanna (his family<br />

desciibed). Bittiyanna built a temple of Biresvara; and (on <strong>the</strong> date specified),<br />

Mahadevarasa, with Kaluva-Malleya and o<strong>the</strong>rs, his forty great men, made for<br />

it a grant of land (specified). Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.<br />

Praise of Sambhu. Obeisance to Mahadeva.<br />

Praise of Ballala, and of his fa<strong>the</strong>r Narasimha and his mo<strong>the</strong>r Echale<br />

When (with usual titles), a fever of fear to Chola, Malava and Gurjjara,—<br />

vira-Ballala-Deva, putt<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>the</strong> evil and uphold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> good <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole<br />

world, was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> residence of Hallayur, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong><br />

peace and wisdom: —<br />

A dweller at his lotus feet was Ballala-Deva's o<strong>the</strong>r half, <strong>the</strong> senior queen<br />

Uma-Devi, whose greatness was as follows: — (her praise) With a well filled<br />

and beautiful tank, surrounded by acacias and areca palms, so as to open <strong>the</strong><br />

eyes of <strong>the</strong> Lakshmi of woods; with grow<strong>in</strong>g sandal and rice-fields, — among<br />

<strong>the</strong> beautiful places <strong>in</strong> this earth, Kalikatti-nad shone conspicuous, with its<br />

temples. (With praises) all <strong>the</strong> subjects and farmers of Kalikatti <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Magare Three Hundred, <strong>the</strong> Jagati-kottali and Jeda-gottali be<strong>in</strong>g present, to<br />

Hodeya-Bittayya, son of <strong>the</strong> promoter of <strong>the</strong> senior queen and crowned consort<br />

Uma-Devi's k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> great m<strong>in</strong>ister Kumara-Panditayya-dannayaka, on<br />

acoount of his hav<strong>in</strong>g built a virg<strong>in</strong> tank to <strong>the</strong> north of <strong>the</strong> Mulasthana-<br />

Kalideva temple and founded a town <strong>in</strong> his name, was given an urnbali (on<br />

<strong>the</strong> date specified). Description of <strong>the</strong> land. Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.<br />
