Praise of Sambhu Obeisance to V<strong>in</strong>ayaka<br />

Usual account of <strong>the</strong> descent of <strong>the</strong> Hoysalas, to Ballala To describe<br />

his valour: When he fought Jaituga, who was with an army <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> great<br />

forties, which, with high ramparts, lofty bastions, mounted with astonish<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Hag-staves, even comb<strong>in</strong>ed masses could not attack and escape, — he soon<br />

raptuied Lokkigundi,— <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala.<br />

When (with usual titles) Hoysala vtra-Ballala-Deva was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> residence of<br />

Dorasumudia, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom:—A<br />

dweller at his lotus feet, Aney.i-mavanta's greatness was as follows — (here<br />

follows a genealogical list, as <strong>in</strong> No 4 above). To Chattaya and Malavve was<br />

horn J.ivanaya-mavanta, (his prarse) He, <strong>in</strong> order that happ<strong>in</strong>ess might accrue<br />

to his mo<strong>the</strong>r and fa<strong>the</strong>r, set up <strong>the</strong> god V<strong>in</strong>uyaka <strong>in</strong> front of <strong>the</strong> town of<br />

Kolagunda, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of <strong>the</strong> local chiefs (named) and all <strong>the</strong><br />

subjects, (on <strong>the</strong> date specified) made a grant for <strong>the</strong> god, wash<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> feet of<br />

Malhka-Jiyya.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> 9th year of <strong>the</strong> Chalukya-Vikiama-klla, etc., when Tnhhuvanamalla<br />

V<strong>in</strong>ayaditya [putt<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>the</strong> evil and uphold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> good <strong>in</strong>] <strong>the</strong> Gaugavadi<br />

N<strong>in</strong>ety-six Thousand, was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom * —<br />

A dweller at his lotus feet, entitled to <strong>the</strong> five big drums, <strong>the</strong> mahasavanta,<br />

(with various epi<strong>the</strong>ts), receiver of a boon from Tiipurahara, worshipper<br />

of <strong>the</strong> feet of Poysala-Deva, an umbrella to five hundred, Bammayya's<br />

junior uncle, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> battle between <strong>the</strong> Nenlige perggade Alamayya and<br />

Nolamba at Nolambanakere, slew his head-seirant and his horse and atta<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

to <strong>the</strong> paradise of heroes.<br />

Invocation of Naiayana.<br />

When, with all titles, Hoysala vira-Narasimha-DSvarasa was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world: —<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> year Prabhava (1267 A. D.), Ballanna, son of<br />

<strong>the</strong> mister of <strong>the</strong> robes Kutana-heggade, made over as a gift <strong>the</strong> Chennakeiava<br />

temple erected by Kutana-heggade <strong>in</strong> Malleyanahajli, a hamlet of Mosale, and<br />

<strong>the</strong> grants for <strong>the</strong> god (specified) to Siddanna, son of <strong>the</strong> Vaidya Devapilleyanna,<br />

and Devanna, son of Chude, with <strong>the</strong> consent of his wife, son and relatives, of<br />

his own will, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of <strong>the</strong> raja-guru Rudrasakti-deva and o<strong>the</strong>rs of<br />

<strong>the</strong> congregation, and <strong>the</strong> farmers of Mosale. Witnesses,
