A dweller at his lotus-feet, — The great Kesara-Setti, son of Rahala, had<br />

a son D6ki By a visit to Somesvara, and by touch<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> lotus-feet of<br />

Raroesvara, purified and meritorious was Chaunda, whose wife was Keleyabhe.<br />

His junior wife was Kanchiyakka, whose son was Ketanmlla. Ho erected <strong>in</strong><br />

Dorasamudra a Siva temple, giv<strong>in</strong>g it, aftei <strong>the</strong> pation of his family, <strong>the</strong><br />

name of Vishnu varddhana-Poysalesvara, And to provide for <strong>the</strong> worship of<br />

that god, and for <strong>the</strong> prosperity of his own family and <strong>in</strong>crease of merit,<br />

(on <strong>the</strong> date specified) made a grant of Tavarekere, free of all imposts; (its<br />

boundaries). Also some o<strong>the</strong>r lauds (specified). (Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses)<br />

Victorious is Gajanana, who assumed a po<strong>in</strong>ted tusk that it might be a style<br />

for <strong>in</strong>scrib<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> villages received fiom Hanhara. May <strong>the</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>al Boar<br />

protect you, who lifted up <strong>the</strong> earth from <strong>the</strong> bottomless ocean m order that<br />

it might be bestowed upon <strong>the</strong> worthy. .May llimakara (<strong>the</strong> moon), who is borne<br />

on his head by <strong>the</strong> master of <strong>the</strong> three world3 and <strong>the</strong> conqueror of Tripura,<br />

who feeds with his rays <strong>the</strong> hosts of <strong>the</strong> gods, <strong>the</strong> left eye of Han, <strong>the</strong> closer<br />

up of <strong>the</strong> lotuses, — grant you ever abundance of joy.<br />

From Yayati, who was of <strong>the</strong> Kalavata-kula (<strong>the</strong> Lunat race), sprang Yadu;<br />

from whose time it is celebrated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world by his name In that famous<br />

l<strong>in</strong>e of Yadu was born Sangame'svara, who was a union (sangama), <strong>the</strong> most difficult<br />

to effect, of Sri and Sarasvati From him (omitt<strong>in</strong>g laudations) sprang<br />

Bukka, whose wife was Gauri. Their son was Hanhara (his praises) He protected<br />

<strong>the</strong> terrified Saurashtras, Angas, Kal<strong>in</strong>gas, Vangas and Yavanas<br />

(With usual titles) <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Hanhara (on <strong>the</strong> date specified), <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Tunga, Pampti and Virupaksha, at <strong>the</strong> time of <strong>the</strong> moon's eclipse,<br />

made a grant of <strong>the</strong> village of Ghattadahalh, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sige-nad of <strong>the</strong> Hoysala<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom, — giv<strong>in</strong>g it <strong>the</strong> name of Sarvajria- Hanhara-mahaiayapura,— to<br />

Brahmans of many gotras and sutras (here follew <strong>the</strong>ir names, etc.) as an<br />

agrahara, free of all imposts, with all lights, to be enjoyed to sons and<br />

grandsons .<br />

Here follow <strong>the</strong> boundaries <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> local vernacular.<br />

A work of merit done even by an enemy one should endeavour to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> enemy <strong>in</strong>deed may rema<strong>in</strong> an enemy, but a work of merit is an enemy to<br />

no one. (Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.)<br />
